Ask a lot of people around the Western world and they’ll tell you loud and long, just how much they dislike politicians, politics and the unhealthy direction the corporate state is moving in. The trouble is that most people feel powerless to change things, and even when there’s a chance to vote, it doesn’t seem to make a difference at all.

Fingerprint Love Test Scanner turns your smartphone into a digital matchmaker [Daily Freeware]
She loves me, she loves me not. We’ve been looking for the perfect mate finder since the dawn of civilisation, or probably before. Our ancestors tried love potions, witchcraft, chemicals, even tea leaves to try and work out which one was the Right One for them. Well now you can, perhaps, add digital technology to the list.
Read MoreMaxthon for Android is the smartphone browser you’ve been waiting for [Daily Freeware]
I recently spent time gushing over the new Maxthon 3 desktop web browser in our Firefox alternatives post earlier this month, and the more I use it, the more impressed I get. It’s incredibly fast, uses very little memory (and with zero memory leak) and has a ton of really useful features built in. It also keeps my laptop running around 20 degrees cooler than Firefox, especially with lots of tabs open. Something to do with CPU load I guess.
Read MoreWord Bully tackles cyber bullying by prying into your child’s life
Bullying is a nasty and pervasive part of many children’s lives, and there’s no doubt that it needs to be dealt with in as many ways as possible, ranging from parent education (how to spot the signs) to classroom monitoring to pick up on signs early enough to stop something developing into a fully traumatic event. In this regard we need to applaud any technology that helps to fight the bully at source.
Read MoreFree Your Android is on a mission to unlock your smartphone for ever
We’ve become used to hearing that the Android operating system for smartphones and other devices is a free, open source product. But in fact, that’s not completely true. There are still bits and pieces on every Android phone that are not open and cost someone, somewhere money. Examples usually revolve around addons installed by the manufacturer (e.g. the Sense UI on HTC phones) or the service provider (e.g. all the Vodafone or T-Mobile branded apps).

There’s no doubt that smartphones are a perfect tourist tool, just think of the things you can use them for. You can use one to navigate around a strange town (as long as you’re happy paying the roaming data fees for your GPS app), take photos of interesting monuments, even check on currency rates while out shopping. Brilliant, and that’s just the obvious ones. One other very cool use is as a mobile brochure for activities you may enjoy.

The Internet is changing everything, and especially in the world of entertainment. Nowadays you can watch television, listen to music, watch movies and play games using the ubiquitous network connection we call the Web. It’s astonishing how fast it’s advanced in just a few years. All of which means it’s great to see innovative new applications hit the scene, especially ones which really make a bold move into uncharted territory.

The iPod Touch has gained a faithful fan base because of its combination of great looks, sleek functionality and the cool feature set which includes games, media player and web surfing. If you’re an Apple family, this is the gadget you get the kids to stop them clamouring for an iPhone when they’re six years old. The only problem is you need to spend several hundred dollars for the privilege of owning one.
Read More15 Alternatives to Android Market…sorry Android Play
I stumbled over this rather nifty list of 15 Alternatives to Android Market (aka Android Play) the other day, and it’s rather cool. The obvious ones are all there, like the Amazon App Store and Getjar, but there are some I’ve never heard of such as PandaApp Wandoujia and Appoke. Why would you need an alternative, I hear you ask? Well simple. How about when you are using someone else’s phone for whatever reason and you don’t want to add a…
Read MoreBounce for Android means you’ll never be late again [Daily Freeware]
There are two types of people in this world. Those that worry about being late to an appointment, and those that don’t. I’ve always been one of the worriers, to the extent of being paranoid. That guy hovering outside the door an hour early for your party? Yeah, that’s me. The dude hanging around at the airport for 2 hours (‘in case security was really bad’), yep me again.

Want a smartphone but sans contract? The Kyocera Zio M6000 may not be the “super” smartphone that the Google Nexus One is – but it has Android and will reportedly require no commitment by being offered by carriers such as Virgin Mobile or Cricket. The best part is how cheap it is going to be – at $169 combined with a pre-paid plan, this is a great starter Android product. Intelligent, sleek, stealthy design # Impressive 3.5″ WVGA motion-enhanced touchscreen…
