cc:Everybody – the free public email inbox

Cceverybody

cc:Everybody is a new online service which offers a free public inbox. Now sharing your emails may sound weird, but in some circumstances it makes perfect sense.

Why? Well, let’s say you want to set up a repository of your most common email responses to clients. Instead of creating a website, just sign up for this service and every time you reply to a customer request, just cc it to cc:Everybody and it will automatically be posted to you online public account for anyone to view from that point on.

The interesting thing, and what sets it apart from conventional email FAQ services, is the fact that you can store whole conversation threads. So for instance, you can use this service to archive a whole two way email exchange for future public access, especially useful for complex stuff, like tutorials and suchlike. Check the video.

How is Cc:Everybody different from any “post by email” blogging platform? Although the service might look at first as a blogging platform, it is quite different for two main reasons: 1. On a blogging platform the blogger chooses what to write about, with Cc:Everybody, a member of the general public starts a discussion by emailing the inbox owner. You can look at this as a “reversed blogging”. 2. If you Cc your Cc:Everybody account on an email, the whole thread goes up on your public inbox, where it will resemble a forum post. Any further back and forth on that email that includes the Cc:Everybody address will be added to the thread. People who visit the page can add their own comments. This way people can publish useful email exchanges.
