Facebook adds a new layer of security to protect your account

I’m ashamed to admit how much time I spend on Facebook. In my defense, I’m not wasting my time playing Farmville or anything silly like that. Most of it is communicating with friends who don’t have the common sense to use a decent instant messenger. Even the most technology-challenged people seem to be on Facebook these days, which makes it a target for scammer and the like. So how do you protect yourself? Well the company has finally added a new layer of security that will ensure that no one will be able to access your account on a computer that isn’t your own.

The new feature is one that is becoming more common with sites that have access to your personal information. Whenever you sign in on a new computer, Facebook will need an access code to be input before you’re allowed in. The access code is sent via text message to your phone. This means that in order for someone to hijack your account, they’ll not only need your password, but either your computer or phone as well. You will need to opt-in to this security feature, so those that aren’t so worried won’t be hassled every time they login from a new computer.
