NotifyWire is a freeware program which simplifies the process of searching Craigslist for bargains. You can set up and save searches (only 1 in the free version), as well as store alert settings which will SMS or email you when an advert matching your criteria appears on the site.
The whole thing is crafted as an Adobe Air app, which makes it very cross platform, and things like the choice of image or table view for results makes it super easy to use. If you’re an avid Craigslister, this is something you’ll really enjoy. Only North America at the moment however.
Respond First. Craigslist list is a unique shopping experience. It’s not like eBay where you can out bid your oppenent and it’s not like Amazon where there’s plenty in stock. There is only one item and it’s first come, first serve. With NotifyWire’s email and SMS alerts, you’ll always be first.
I've been using a site called Adravage.com for some time now. Similar to this app, it searches Craigslist ads for keywords. It notifys via email or SMS. They offer a free basic account with unlimited notifications. Nothing is installed locally, so your computer doesn't need to be left powered on. It has already caught a couple of good bargains for me.

"Notifywire" was shut down, due to a threat from Craigslist about being sued over their software.
Sadly, "Notifywire" no longer exists.
