1 Hour Photo – do good things come to those who wait? [Free Software]

Nowadays it’s all rush rush, go go, so we’re always fascinated when someone tries to buck the trend and take us back to a more leisurely way of being. Like when we actually all had some free time to spare. Remember that?

1 Hour Photo is a free iPhone app which is designed to take us back to a better time (or something). It works alongside your phone’s camera, but instead of delivering the image instantly when you take the shot, it deliberately makes you wait for an hour before displaying the results in an artful black and white form. It’s like, poetry, man.

And that’s it. The whole idea is recreate that anticipation you used to feel when you took your film into a developer to get it processed and had to wait for days or even a week for the prints to come back. Apparently that delay makes the results more ‘magical‘ than just seeing them in seconds. We’re guessing that the fact the images area also processed as a black and white film emulation is part of the experience.

Anyhoo, if you’re one of those with time on your hands and you’re all for a bit of magic, you may want to check this out. Otherwise, for the rest of us Philistines, it’s carry on with the snap, review, delete or save motif.
