The Gentile collection is an awe inspiring selection of tiny – playable – instruments made by someone with far too much time on their hands. OK just kidding. The six various instruments in the collection are 1/7th scale miniatures, which are perfect down to the scratches and markings. The whole collection took 7 years to make, and apparently a portion of it is for sale. Astonishing craftsmanship!

File under ‘neat gadget, but why not tell us the price folks?’ The Soundtainer is a semi professional solid state field recorder, which uses MP3 and tiny MMC cards to give ultra-portability. It’s nice and people like Marantz should be worried right now!

I really don’t know how to take this one. ? Bounty Hunter software, billed as ‘the most sophisticated computer tracking and recovery software on the market today’. The weird thing is that it’s free (the company claims it will make money by added value services it offers). It is basically a software product you load onto your computer which will notify you immediately the machine is logged on to the Internet. My doubts arise because if I were a clever…

I’ve got to admit that when I first saw this MP3Mystic product I laughed out loud. How much did it cost Messrs Robertson and co to build my.MP3.com? This is basically a cut down MP3 server which you can use to broadcast your MP3 music collection to anywhere you are located as long as you have a browser and net connection. So you set up your PC with your MP3 music collection on it, fire up this software before you…

This is a lovely little pictorial report doing the rounds at the moment which may point the way towards the phone use (and users) of the future. It’s based on observations in Japan and basically shows a nation obsessed with their tiny mobile phone gadgets – and they do seem to have a few!

I could look at this again and again and again (in fact I just have!). Powers of Ten is just wonderful. A x10 journey through magnification and back from deep space to quantum space. Brilliant. Needs Java and patience!

Hmmm, not sure about this one. A company here in the UK has just announced a flat pack house which you can build from scratch in a week. It apparently uses specially factory crafted panels to speed up the process. It looks to be a development of this technology with a few tweaks. What I want to know is, when you want to move can you take it with you?

So this is a test after a bit of a problem which stopped Blog working on my machine. Seems that something decided to block off FTP postings from within the program. Sheesh! Computers, doncha love ’em? :-)

Whoa, a new addition to the Stress Relief section from me. Not a Web site but a file download but very very funky. Miroslav has created the Desktop Game package – a small downloadable game which lets you beat the bits out of your desktop screen, with….wait for it…..anything from a flamethrower to a machine gun, termites and hammer. It’s fab, fun and the sound effects on their own will bring a smile to your face. Enjoy!

I decided spontaneously to hunt for the best stress relieving sites I could find online. No real reason, it just struck me as interesting. I can’t say that this is an exhaustive list, ‘cosI haven’t spent long enough on the search, so if anyone has any additional suggestions, let me know and I’ll post them. But so far the ones I thought are most worthy of mention are (in no particular order): Bubble Wrap. Stupid, simple and inane. and almost…

Everyone knows that Nokia rules the mobile phone roost and here’s proof. Logo Manager is a really nice little software package to let you customise your logos and ring tones to your heart’s content. It’s simple to use, not that expensive at $24.95, and works. You will need either a new generation WAP phone like the 3330, an adapter cable or an infra red connection on your PC to get it to work properly, but once you have that it’s…

Imagine, if you will, a world where we all carried around our own power sources. One company which obviously has this ideal is Freeplay but there are others moving in the same direction. I’ve been testing out the Aladdin Power hand generator for a while now, and while it’s far from being the 21st century solution we’re all looking for, it shows us how things could go in the future. You basically press the lever with your hand rapidly around…

This is such a sweet article on how to take your own photographs using nothing more than a geranium plant and a bit of iodine. The author calls it Roman Photography for some strange reason, but it’s really fun in a geek sort of Blue Peter way.

Oh now look at this. So you’re a book freak, and you know all about Amazon and stuff, but you’re sure there’s a better way. Well there is. Try Book Genie, a sort of online search engine and price comparison site for books. What’s really neat is that they include second hand prices too from Half.com and Powells, so you may well be able to trace that long out of print book (as I just did). Very very cool. And…
