Hmm, as far as I can tell German company Enginion has developed a non combustion heat cell engine which oxidises fuel to produce enough heat to steam power an engine. The result is emission free, and very efficient (read low cost) power. The company is aiming to produce a home heating system in 2 years time and is talking big talk about powering vehicles etc within a short time frame. Sounds very interesting!

RealVNC is a free bit of software which lets you control a remote computer from another machine or PDA. I tried an early version long ago and it worked really well. Worth a download if you’re into that sort of thing. Not so sure about TightVNC, but noted here for completeness.

The Panasonic SV-PT1 media storage unit is a cool iPod looking box which stores digital photographs. It contains a 5 GB PC Card disk and accepts SD cards. It holds around 5000 photies and you can – gasp – even play them back onto your TV first before transferring them to a PC for processing or whatever. [via dpreview]

I thought that this hands free Nokia backplate was quite a neat idea. Apparently all you do is replace your old Nokia 33xx series backplate with this �19.95 one, plug it into the bottom socket and bingo, one speakerphone.

The Bluetrek Bluetooth headset looks quite neat and unobtrusive. It’s got a 10 meter range, 2 hours talk time/2 days standby time from one charge of its Li-ion battery and is adjustable for either ear. Around �80.00.

The Panasonic DMR-HS2 is a DVD recorder with a hard disk and stuff in it. It is DVD-RAM and DVD-R compatible and sports a Firewire socket as well as an SD card slot for digital cameras and the like. Can’t tell you much else, because it’s all in Japanese, but it looks groovy nonetheless.

My, my Ms Linux, look how you’ve grown. Desktop/LX from Lycoris just shows what you can do when you marry up the Linux back end with a fancy and colourful desktop screen with swish icons. You get an operating system that may become a very attractive $29.95 alternative to Windows XP for folks who just want to do the basics. It may not quite be the time to sell those MS shares, but Redmond definitely needs to be careful! Geeky…

Fujitsu has unveiled the MARON-1 robot which can be remotely operated via a mobile phone. It will cost around $1500.00 when it’s released next year, and comes with digital camera eyes. Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be able to actually DO that much, but hey it looks kinda cute.
