Ferrety voyages

The Ferret must a’wanderin’ go. Cross sea and sand. To a far off land. And return with a ho ho ho! Normal service should restart around the 9th May.

Philips DesXcape 150DM

The Philips DesXcape is the Dutch manufacturer’s entry into the world of WiFi enabled ‘smart displays’. And I’ve got to say that this one looks lovely. However again the price, at 999.00, is not to be sneezed, snuffled or coughed at.

SliMP3

Actually this is only here ’cause I like the name (just joking guys!). The SliMP3 device is an Ethernet MP3 player. That is, it streams music from your PC to your stereo system via your network. What do you mean you don’t have a network? Doesn’t everyone? Costs $229.00

Free horoscopes

Hmmm, interesting concept. The Astro.com site offers detailed and free horoscopes and stuff based around your personal birth details. Not sure how they make money out of it however. Also available in different languages.

The Payphone Project

The Payphone Project documents the payphones of the world. Surely a dying breed? The photo above is apparently a solar powered GSM payphone on Lake Victoria, Uganda. Gives a whole new meaning to the term ‘mobile phone’.

Beam me up Mr Spock

The Vulcan Mini-PC is a teeny but fully functional Windows PC with 20 GB hard disk. But the keyboard looks really naff unfortunately. Still, it’s an interesting idea. [via slashdot]

Aaron the artist

AARON is a computer artist program. It draws art. Itself. No two paintings are exactly alike (although they’re all darn similar!). And you can download a screensaver trial. Clever stuff. [via metafilter]

Space race

Good grief they’re all at it. Now it’s the turn of ex PayPal co-founder Elon Musk. He’s not so much taking the money that he got from selling his business and running, as taking it and flying. Or attempting to. Into space see? And so we give you – SpaceX. The vehicle will be a 68 foot tall rocket called Falcon Explorer which is costing a cool $6 million to build. Best of luck dude.

See Spot run…

Mmm…Microsoft is apparently prepping the 3rd party manufacture of a whole raft of smart watches and other devices which will be able to accept FM radio data transmissions. The idea is that things like horoscopes, traffic reports, sports scores and the like can be beamed to these Smart Personal Objects Technology (aka SPOT) devices on demand. A sort of teletext for the wrist. Of course, as some reports point out, these are things that can be sent to mobile phones…

Shuttle bike

There is a reason why you’d like to own one of these, but I’m darned if I can come up with it right at this moment. The Shuttle Bike is an ‘inflatable bicycle boat in a backpack’ which sets up in 10 minutes and travels at speeds of up to 6 miles an hour. $695.00 to you, dear friends! [via madville]

Look ma, no tape

The Panasonic solid state camcorder uses PCMCIA (aka PC Cards) instead of tape for recording. It holds five 4GB cards to give a total of 72 minutes recording, and the camcorder fills one card before moving on to record on the next. No news yet as to whether you can hot swop cards to give continuous shooting. No word on price either! [via slashdot] I agree with the article’s reporter who feels that this is a revolution. Say goodbye to…

Car Living

There’s something almost surreally 21st century about the Car Living Web site, devoted as it is to the art of…er…living in your car. As someone who resides in one of the most expensive cities in the known universe I can certainly sympathise with some of the sentiments. “I wanted to conserve resources and not just monetary ones. I was only sleeping in my apartment so it was a waste of space. After an investment of about $1,000, including building a…
