Glug, Click!

Those incredibly clever folks at Casio have launched a waterproof Exilim [warning: japanese site]. Well actually it’s an Exilim S2 plus clear plastic case, but how cool is that? Snug and dry up to a depth of 3 metres apparently. [via i4U.com]

If it can go wrong….

The Murphy’s Laws site is probably the definitive source of all things Murphy-like. War Laws – Friendly fire – isn’t.Tech Laws – New systems generate new problemsLove Laws – if it seems too good to be true, it probably is. [via madville]

Ssshhhh…look at that!

At last one of the big video card makers has worked out that cards have been steadily getting noisier and noisier over the years and has decided to do something about it. The new WinFast A300 Ultra TD is a top notch video card based around the blisteringly fast Nvidia GeForce FX 5800 Ultra. It uses a special wind tunnel derived cooling system which apparently gives ‘effective heat dispersion and noiselessness.’ Sounds good (arf arf).

Copy this, copy that…

The Apacer Disc Steno CP100 is a portable 6 in 1 multi-format flash memory reader which can copy the data directly to its internal CD-RW drive. That’s right, you can take your compact flash drive, memory stick, SmartMedia or SD/MM etc cards, plug ’em in and press the REC button to burn the contents directly to a CD whilst out and about. Fab for happy snappers, eh? Runs on rechargeable batteries. No word on price though. [via digitlife]

TAXI!!

The Zingo Service promises to speed up the hailing of taxis in London by using GPS to route your mobile phone call directly to the nearest available black cab. Bet it still doesn’t cope with those frantic rainy day rush hour scrambles so beloved of our sensitive city dwellers. [via infosync]

Warm up, cool down

American company, TMIO, has come up with what it’s calling an intelligent oven. No it can’t do calculus – yet – but it can store your ready to cook meal all day in its refrigerated interior and then cook it on demand after you give it the order over the Internet. Apart from looking ugly as sin, it will set you back a cool $2000.00 when launched at the end of the year, which means that it won’t be gracing…

You can’t touch this…

Fujitsu Labs has developed a no contact biometric authentication system which works by ‘recognizing the pattern of blood veins in the palm’. Riiight! By the time all these bods have finished, we’ll be walking around getting scanned for our thumbprints, retina prints, vein prints, fingerprints, voice prints and DNA sample. The only thing they don’t seem to be working on is our pimple prints. Sheesh!

The robots are coming, the robots are coming….

According to this report from the EE Times, the Japanese are about to go all out to drive the domestic robot as a ‘must have’ consumer product. One way they hope to achieve this is by driving the standardisation of parts to bring the costs down, see? Makes sense. Judging by some of the cool products on show at this year’s Robodex exhibition [warning: quicktime video link] in Tokyo they really seem to be making technological headway. But what I…

Exchange Masters

Hmm, not sure quite how to take this one. ExchangeMasters bills itself as a retailer that ‘buys, sells and exchanges SIM free mobile phones and game consoles’. I’m hesitant because although there appear to be some real bargains, the site really does have that East End barrow boy look about it, especially since lots of stuff seems to be sold out. Still and all it’s an interesting adaptation of the e-commerce concept, that’s fer sure.

Net service switcher

Mobile Net Switch is a doozy bit of software that lets you use your computer on more than one network ‘with the click of a button’. The $15.00 utility handles drive mappings, printer settings, IP settings, proxies and all that kind of stuff automatically which makes it a cool tool for roaming power users. Check it out, why doncha?

Web in a box!

So you’ve got this little gizmo that you’re producing but you want to make it Web enabled? Why not hop along to the folks at Lantronix and order their XPort, a Web server device built into a RJ-45 socket. Yep that’s right, all the flash memory and bits you need to run a browser accessible device in one tiny form factor. Watch out for a whole heap more Web enabled DVD players real soon now.
