Ferrets awaaaaaaayy!

Once again it is time to gird loins, lift chins, face destiny squarely in the eye and depart for distant shores in search of that perfect elixir of life. Transmissions will return to some semblance of normality around the 14th August, dear friends. In the meantime, dream on!

Panasonic mobile moves

Look out for a range of new Panasonic SD cards with embedded Picsel file viewers and browsers on them soon. The deal between the two companies looks like the start of a push to let PDA and Smartphone owners upgrade their file access abilities just by buying a new SD card with the ePage technology built in. Clever.

Storage vaults

FujiFilm has announced this cool little DPC-UD1 FinePix Card [warning: Japanese site], which is a USB flash memory drive which accepts xD cards. These little gizmos are fab, just so useful for moving stuff around, storing data etc since all you need to do is swap out cards once they’re full. Lovely. [via digitlife]

Tapping the gamer wave

US company Tapwave has started leaking details of its upcoming Palm powered games console/PDA hybrid, Helix. It will feature Bluetooth, a high resolution screen, and two SD card slots for Palm type add-on functionality. Who knows, it may even look something like this unnamed graphic header at the X-Forge site – It’s obviously targeted at execs who want a bit more from their PDA, especially since it will happily sync using Palm sync software. Go Do Play. Indeed. [via slashdot]

Disposable digicams?

The Dakota Digital camera is different. Very different. It’s disposable. Well not so much disposable as returnable. [via boingboing] Quote: ‘I just bought one. You buy the camera for $10.99. You take 25 pictures. You bring the camera back to any “Big Print Central” camera store. They take your camera. They give you prints and a CD of the files. After that, they expect you to buy a new camera. They refurbish your returned camera and resell it. Weird huh?

Wireless memories

The Wallflower Wifi picture frame is really cool. It’s big (12.1 inch LCD), contains a hard disk to store your digital photos, but also has WiFi to make it easy to transfer photos from your PC to the frame. Pricey though at $649.00. [via gizmodo] ‘Want to add a new picture to your Wallflower? Simply drag the image to the Wallflower folder on your computer and drop it. No resizing, no messing with cables, no messing with cards.’

FujiFilm S5000 Zoom

Fujifilm has just announced the new S5000 Zoom, which is a compact SLR type digicam with 3.1 megapixel (6 megapixel recorded with Fujifilm’s HR tech) and xD card storage. But what’s really impressive in a box this small is the 37-370mm equivalent 10x optical zoom capability. That’s awesome, and I predict that if the price is right this one will fly off the shelves. Update: picture samples here.[Via DPReview]

HyperScore

Hyperscore is a new way to create musical compositions. You download the free software, do some stuff and bingo!. Easy really. Ahem. [via slashdot] Yet another off the wall project brought to you by the incredibly fertile minds at MIT. Just take a look at some of their other cool stuff. I particularly like the hand generator, which is kind of like a ball on the end of a piece of string. Neat.
