RIP – floppy drive?

Hmm, am I the only one to notice that buried amongst the flotsam & jetsam of Dell’s dominance of the PC market is the fact that they no longer appear to include floppy disk drives on their desktop PCs? I’m usually cautious about forecasting things in this crazy market, but this sure looks like the end of the line for the humble floppy. Sniff, we’ll miss ya little fella. Direct to disk cam

Sony’s new DCR DVD100 camcorder records direct to DVD disk. OK, so it’s only a 3″ disc, but it’s still pretty neat. The company claims that it’ll play back on most modern DVD players including the Playstation 2. Woot! Pricing looks to be around $995.00.

The Wooden Mirror is a very weird art project. 830 tiny pieces of wood, each attached to servo motors. A tiny video camera concealed in the centre. ‘The piece reflects any object or person in front of it by organizing the wooden pieces. It moves fast enough to create live animation. [via boingboing]

Clearing traces

iISystem Wiper is a freeware utility which lets you ‘clear the history of your activites from you computer’. The free version handles temp Internet files, cookies, histories etc etc. The $14.95 Pro version provides secure file deletion. Worth a download. Scrub XP for Windows XP is another good looking freeware option. While you’re at it, take a look at the free Internet Cache Cleaner, which removes stuff that has become orphaned and therefore unseen by the IE cache manager. Useful.
