DIY Segway.

How to build your own DIY Segway for around $2000.00. Amazing what you can do with some $15 eBay batteries and duct tape. Mind you, judging by some of the videos [Quicktime link], it does perform a little like an eBay and duct tape dolly. But still neat nonetheless

Peas in a pod…

Did you know that there are identical twins clubs? Or that they have special meet ups every year in various place? Or that Deb and Lisa Ganz (pictured) set up the Twins Restaurant in Times Square, New York? Or that there are twins chat rooms, books, videos and a worldwide networking society? No neither did I. Wow-ee!

Bike mad…

I don’t believe that this bike can actually work. Well…hmm…maybe looking at it again, perhaps the fluff is all fake so it might work. But that’s sure one huge compensation thang going on, eh?

Bananas…

Someone has invented a box to hold a banana? One banana? I think I need to go have a little lie down for a moment.

Da email.

DACafe Mail is a free email service which offers 50 MB of storage. Also has spam filtering, calendar etc etc. I still think that Oddpost.com is the best of the email services out there, even if it does cost $30 a year and only run with Internet Explorer.

Copy…right?

Er…I really don’t get this. It must be a spoof right? A site which sells replica watches. Is Copylex allowed to flog fake…sorry replica….Cartiers, Rolex et al? ‘We offer only the best replica watches. When dealing with Copylex.com you can expect to receive high quality replicas along with excellent customer service.’

Track this…

Need to track and photograph something that is moving very fast? Very very fast? Then you need Toshiba’s new Active Camera System. ‘…can track an object moving at a speed of 100km an hour 15 meters away from the camera. The algorithm runs on one of dual-CPU PCs, to realize image processing at a rate of 1000fps and real-time object tracking.’ And all in ordinary lighting conditions.

Free phone calls.

Lots of wibble around at the moment about the new WiFi ‘voice over IP’ phone from Free World Dialup. A wireless mobile phone that you can use to make ‘free’ calls to a FWD subscriber, although not to a standard telephone as yet. VoiP technology is still in nappies, WiFi even more so. And I still think that anything that constrains my coverage as WiFi does, is not going to be here for the long term. Still and all, an…

Monster monitors…Part II

So the Liebermann Inc site may have been a clever spoof, but apparently there IS a company which does monster monitor arrays, dubbed the X-Top Expert-10 System, ranging in price from $9,699.00 up to – gulp – $155,799.00.

The perfect handheld?

TreoCentral has a great feature article from designer Jake Ehrlich which looks at the design requirements of a perfect handheld computer/PDA device. The result is the Phantom V, a concept product that I suspect you’ll either love or hate. ‘If I had a time machine and I could go to the year 2015 and see a Palm handheld computer, what would it look like? ‘

Infectious site…

Presenting the eColi neck tie. I suspect that these fashion accessories from Infection Awareables may become more than just a well-meaning gimmick once the world wakes up to the fact that anti-biotics are about to go bust on us. ‘He has estimated that in 12 years all antibiotics could be redundant.’

USB goodness – Part I…

So who said that USB would never catch on? Here’s a very neat little USB application – the PC Lock. PC-Lock is an easy-to-use computer security tool that works as well as the lock on your door, only the owner can get in. You can use it to prevent computer start up (no key, no boot). Control web surfing by the kids (permit/prohibit certain web sites) and keep private files secure behind a File Safe folder. It can also control…

USB goodness – Part II…

OK bear with me here. What happens if you combine this USB Flash Memory Watch with the fab looking PocketLogin specs of the new $199.95 Migo? ‘Migo plugs into a PC USB port, captures a user’s entire PC environment and replicates that personal desktop on any other compatible Windows-based computer anywhere in the world. Unlike other flash memory devices that store only limited files, Migo transfers a user’s customized desktop including the desktop background image with personal settings, Internet…
