It also features direct encoding for moving stuff onto the player and converting to MP3 on the fly. Looks good too! (OK, about 240 tracks and 28 hours playback from one 3 hour charge of the battery.)

As predicted by the Ferret back in April, the FastChat service – which turns your mobile phone into a walkie talkie – is starting to grab attention around the world. Aunty has just picked up on it and so have a number of American news services. It’s still in early development, reports of lag and variable sound quality are rife, but it’s still a very very cool application for GPRS network providers to sell. Watch it go! There are reports…
Read MoreDell to challenge Sony?
According to this report, top PC maker Dell is planning to expand into consumer electronics like TVs and stuff. ‘”The whole new ballgame is these worlds (computing and consumer electronics) converging, and that’s a world we’re comfortable in,” says CEO Michael Dell.’ Mmm, interesting move since it’s a little debatable whether Dell’s strength in ‘on demand’ distribution to businesses will translate effectively into competitive advantage for home electronics. The Nokia 7600. Funny shaped camera phone, which also plays MP3s. But with only 29MB of RAM and no expansion slot, it doesn’t remove breath from throat, does it? …and you think that they would have learned that people don’t like any keypad set up that makes it harder to dial a number or use SMS. 3650 anyone?

Rock-Ola, jukebox maker extraordinaire, has just launched the E-Rock jukebox. It’s a broadband connected, cash and credit card operated digital box which offers punters a choice of 130,000 songs. That kind of beats out yer average jukebox by a couple of songs or so, eh? ‘Rock-Ola’s new E-Rock features a 19″ glass touch screen monitor, dual amplifiers with dual seven band graphic equalisers, blasting out tunes with 900 watts of power.’ Now, where to put it in the living room?
