Liquid Metal

Liquid Metal is twice as hard as titanium or stainless steel, and so smooth that paint won’t stick to it. But when heated to 750 degrees it turns into an easily moulded goo like plastic. The company is trying to sell it as a new material for everything from golf clubs and tennis rackets to PDA, watch and mobile phone cases. It’s an amorphous alloy, see? ‘Kang is so confident of the material’s potential that he’s even hired Silicon Valley…

Robbie rules, OK?

Sony’s QRIO robot looks really neat. Of course it still can’t do that much (check out the capabilities section on the site) but it sure looks like a good pointer to the future of the genre. Take a look also at this fascinating interview with a Sony robot guru.

The PC is dead, long live…

The PC appears to be dying. Slowly. Very slowly. In its place expect to see a rash of computers which look more like consumer electronics devices. Like the Asus DigiMatrix box above, or the ABIT DigiDice box below. Time for some design fun, folks.

Exhale heater

The 180’s (what kind of a name is that?) Exhale Gloves ‘let you use your own breath to keep your hands warm even in the harshest weather.’ That’s right instead of breathing into the popped open wrist end of your mittens like everyone else, you can spend a small fortune buying a pair which will channel the heat around for you. Riiight! Actually can’t find the price anywhere on the site. Whatever.

PC Cards go Small…

PC Cards (aka PCMCIA cards) which fit into laptop computers are gonna get small. The PCMCIA trade group has just announced the launch of the ExpressCard, a smaller, faster, more compassionate and sympathetic expansion card format. Half the size, but probably twice the cost initially, eh? But in the meantime here is the ‘most comprehensive directory of PC Card products in the world. Apparently.
