Share the pain…

WiFi SM is ‘an Internet connected wireless device that you can fix on any part of your body. It automatically detects the information from approximately 4,500 news sources worldwide updated continuously and analyses them looking for specific keywords such as death, kill, murder, torture, rape, war, virus etc… Each time the text of the news contains one of these keywords, your WiFi-SM device is activated through the WiFi network and provides you with an electric impulse. Phoneline networking.

I wonder whether this PC Port Phoneline Adapter thingy works? The makers claim that it ‘lets you share an Internet connection with multiple computers using your home’s existing telephone wiring…just plug PC Port into your computer’s USB port and a nearby phone jack, run the installation CD and you’re ready to share data among networked computers.’ Fascinating!

V.90 to go…

Billionton’s BT56R V.90 Wireless Modem is a conventional dial up modem that can provide a wireless Bluetooth Internet connection up to 100 meters away. Hook the modem up to your standard telephone line, switch on your Bluetooth enabled PDA, laptop or whatever and happy surfing. No word on price or availability I’m afraid. Remember though, that 100 meters really means a room and a bit at most in the real world. I’m amazed that it took so long. Yes it…

Barcode pencil…

You know how the web is currently fascinated by USB powered gizgogs? Well I’m equally fascinated by the growing number of Bluetooth doobries. Like this Barcode Pencil. Right here I’m thinking BT phone in pocket, scanner in hand. Swiping product labels in shop to receive instant price comparison shopping info. Or something…

Smart finger…

The SmartFinger is a Japanese project to add tactile feedback to our hands. Kind of like a force feedback mouse, only smaller. ‘The SmartFinger can provide extra tactile sensations. For example, someone wearing this small device on his or her nail can touch a drawing on a flat sheet of paper and feel a virtual edge along the drawings line, and virtual roughness from its texture pattern.’

Nokia chameleon.

The Nokia 3200 is the definitive chameleon phone. Yes, simply print out a favourite design on your inkjet, use the supplied template cutters to cut out and insert, and bingo you’re a member of Trendsetters Inc. Or something. What I want to know is, can I make it look like a Sony Ericsson P800?

Send me when…?

Futureme.org. Send yourself an email in the future. Go there, enter text, enter desired sending date, press Send. Voila. I s’pose you could also use this to send an email to your boss. Timed so that you were safely out of the country when it was received. Strange thing though, ain’t it?

Flash flash

The web site of Korean designers Niin, defies description. I’ve seen it and I still don’t understand it. If you’ve got a powerful machine, fast connection, lots of time and a yen to see some awesomely imaginative interactive graphics, go there. Otherwise do yourself a favour and move on quickly.

Top flight movies…?

The digEplayer thingummy has been getting a lot of airplay recently, both as a pretty neat and cost effective way for smaller airlines to add in flight entertainment and also as an example of how a determined – some would say driven – guy can get a new project off the ground. Arf arf! It definitely looks like an interesting product in any event.

Power card.

The Sugoi SGC-X3UFL PC Card [warning: Babel Japanese] is what you might call power packed, including as it does not only a Firewire and USB 2.0 socket, but also a 10/100Base-TX Ethernet port for those real road warriors. Wot no WiFi guys? Arf.

IKEA ideas

Hmm, it looks like IKEA is going all I’TEK. You’ve been able to download a pretty swish virtual catalogue and office and kitchen planner programs for a while, but from August next year the company will be trialling a new photo realistic room planner program in Greece. The new system will use what the company calls ‘augmented reality’, which sounds like a fancy name to describe hooking up a digital photie with some clever perspective algorithms. ‘All thats required is…
