The $99.95 Ten-in-One Emergency Camping Tool has it all. ‘This lightweight portable TV includes a radio, lantern, flashlight, Compass, Analog clock, Thermometer, Emergency blinker, Siren, and Audible mosquito-repellent.’ Er…since when has a TV been an emergency item?

Frank’s Golden.
Frank’s Vinyl Museum is a priceless sample of weird and wonderful music tracks from around the world. I particular like the Beatles Barkers – ‘On it are 12 of the Beatles’ most popular early songs, done up by a traditional rock-‘n-roll band with the vocals supplied by dogs. That’s right. Dogs.’ Enjoy!
Read MoreNigerian scam blown?
Apparently there has just been a concerted international police swoop on suspected Nigerian 419 scam artists. The most public arrest has been this 39 year old Australian (huh?) guy in Sydney. Fab news if it slows down the flood of this sinister stuff reaching our inboxes.

The Click2Translate online service now offers not only free machine translations of text, but also a facility to get an instant online quote for a human or human edited machine translation. The GLD voice over IP service looks pretty standard stuff, but gazing closely at the small print I was drawn by the reference to the Traveler’s Package. This lets you make unlimited VoIP international calls from ‘any email enabled cellphone’. It’s not very clear, but I think that rates for this service are $99.00 a month, which would make it good value for globe trotting execs, no?

Read MoreDebate the Big Smoke.
The Big Smoke Debate. Londoners get their say as to whether to follow the US example and ban smoking in public places. Democracy in action? For those what don’t know, London is known affectionately (?) as The Big Smoke. Yeah, I know it’s not quite as evocative as The Big Apple, but what do you do?
Read MoreUltimate sanctuary?
Someone is selling a house. Not any old house, but the Ultimate Secure Home. Rock exterior, air filtration, independent water supply, fallout room – the lot. Apparently ‘the owners originally planned to use the house as a summer retreat’. So what happened? Did they decide to risk it a little and sell up? One for the survivalist Fred Flinstones amongst us.
