Mono-maniac.

And here was I thinking that mono wheels were a modern invention. Apparently not, dear readers. Nor are they all as monster as this V8 engined behemoth.

Good grief, everyone’s going anti-carb. There’s even a community forum for it now called My Low Carb Life . That Doc Atkins has a lot to answer for, and pass me another butter scone, dear. Fads are great, aren’t they?

Double fun DVD.

NEC Corp’s HD DVD [Babel] AOD (Advanced Optical Disk) drive features not one, but two lasers – a bluey, and a reddy. Result? A drive that can not only read today’s standard DVD disks, but also cope with the mega disks of tomorrow, up to 30GB in capacity. That’s almost enough to hold Bill Gates’ bank statements.

Stellar effort.

Stellarium is a pretty cool – and free – ‘photo-realistic sky generator’ program. ‘Stellarium is a [sic] free software available for Windows, Linux/Unix and MacOSX. It renders 3D photo-realistic skies in real time. With stellarium, you really see what you can see with your eyes, binoculars or a small telescope.’

Photo camera goodness.

A nice little piece from Textually.org looking at how people are starting to invent cool ways to use cameraphones. ‘A contractor in the business of sealing driveways, has been taking pictures of any pre-existing tar splatters on a customer’s garage or house. “Just so if a customer asks, I can say, “Here, look, that was there before I started.” ‘

Sky lark.

I think that this story on Sky’s digital television newsletter is kind of sad. More for what it says about us, than what it says about the poor animals. ‘Gorilla Keepers at Longleat Safari Park are giving their TV-loving charges a special Christmas treat this year by installing their enclosure with the new Sky+ system. The 42-year-old Western Lowland gorillas Nico and Samba have been enjoying relaxing in front of the telly for the last few years and now their…

All round recording.

It may not look like much, but Logitec’s snappily named LDR-HA443U2 [Babel] DVD recorder must rate as just about the most complete device of its type on the market. Not only DVD + and – R/RW but also DVD RAM as well as USB 2.0 connection speeds. Still not sure why anyone would want DVD RAM, but I’m willing to listen.
