Face it.

US company Attrasoft has some pretty impressive looking face and photo recognition software called Image Finder which is actually kind of scary and reassuring at the same time. On the one hand it’s scary to see just how easy it might be for the unscrupulous to track us all wherever we go, and on the other it’s nice to know that even if you grow a beard Mr Bad Man, there’s stuff around that should catch you. ‘The image database…

Blam! Blam! Thank you ma’am.

Blam! is a really cool free app that lets you create pukka looking reviews of books, CDs or DVDs for your web site or blog based around Amazon’s rather large selection of data and images. Bingo (sigh, ok blam!) instant professional looking review, and linked back to the online shop. ‘You enter the ASIN/ISBN number of the item you’re reviewing, then fill in the name and URL of your weblog, your Amazon associates ID if you have one, and your…

Office mail.

OfficeMail from Burrotech looks to be an ideal way to provide email for all users on a small network, without each of them needing an Internet connection. There’s a free and shareware version available. ‘In other words it gives everyone on a LAN spam- and virus-free email – [sic] both to everyone else on the LAN and to the outside world. Install Office Mail on one PC (it doesn’t even have to be a dedicated PC – see the FAQ…

What ho, Jeeves.

The TJ10000 Dressman from Siemens is a kind of robo-butler. Well actually it irons your shirts, fast and economically. Which seems perfect for the Armani brigade. Priced from around 855.00 Euros. (And here’s a rather swish Macromedia company presentation on it – in Dutch I’m afraid.)

Small Red Box.

The Be Silent [Babel] PC is red. Ferrari red. In fact it’s covered in the same paint as they use to repair Ferraris. Apparently. And it’s small too, in case you hadn’t noticed. Priced from around $600.00 for the bare bones version.

Small project.

Er..just how small are they going to be able to make these projector thingies? The Plus Vision V-1100Z is half the size of a magazine and only 1.1kg. Soon they’ll be pocket sized and then where will we be? I’ll tell you where, desperate for spare white screen space, that’s where.

Geek delights.

Perfect for propellerheads – the Arvel USB powered Smokeless Ashtray. ‘Just plug this little egg shaped ashtray into your computer to have the little nicotine chicken suck up all of that extra smoke.’ …or for that extra relief after a hard day pounding the keyboard, what about the Arvel USB powered Ceramic Fragrance-Oil Burner. ‘Just pour your favorite Fragrance oil onto the device and plug in the USB cable.’ I think they’re even platform independent. Arf!

Amazing Grace.

Philips and Gracenote have teamed up to provide Gracenote Mobile – the world’s first ‘global music recognition and content delivery service.’ And yes, I think you’ll find that Shazam is UK only at the moment. ‘When a music fan hears a song they’d like more information about, they simply dial a short code provided by the carrier or portal and point their mobile phone towards the music source for 5-10 seconds. Depending on their phone, the user will receive a…
