Catch me if you can…

The RK-1 [Babel] motion sensing module attaches to a cameraphone and turns it into a security monitoring device. The module senses when someone enters an area, then triggers the phone’s camera and sends the image to an email address of your choice. It looks as though there’s also a heat sensing version available or coming which can sense a human body up to 5 meters away. More here [Japanese PDF]. It is priced at around $150.00, but only works with…

My Product Advisor – ‘unbiased, customised recommendations’. Hmm, only cars and digital cameras at the moment, but interesting concept nonetheless. No ads, no selling, no registration required. Jumpstart your shopping process!’

Creative film.

Fabulous. The Creative Commons concept comes to movies via 4th Wall Films. ‘I’m releasing this film under a Creative Commons license for a number of reasons, many of them purely practical. I don’t have a lot of money, I can’t distribute it myself, and even sending out VHS copies to people who’ve heard about it sets me back the cost of the tapes and mailing fees. So part of me wants the movie to be self-distributed, the way you lend…

Battery shocker.

Hmm, can anyone say iPod Fiasco? Browsing through the Siemens SX1 user manual yesterday I came across this little beauty on Page 96: ‘Regardless of this, the battery has been designed and manufactured so that it can be recharged and used for six months after the purchase of your mobile phone. After six months, if the battery is clearly suffering from loss of performance, we recommend that you replace it. So is this the start of a new trend, and…

DECT message.

So let me get this right. The landline phone makers are getting so worried about mobile phones encroaching on their turf that they’re trying to make home handsets act like cellular ones? The Philips DECT 511, for instance, comes with polyphonic melodies, send/receive SMS, predictive text, multiple incoming mailboxes and recordable ringtones. Phew!

Travelling Stan.

I really like this How News Travels on the Internet piece from Stephen VanDyke. I’m not sure that it’s 100% – for instance the correlation between the genesis of the stories and their transportation through the lesser Blogosphere and beyond is not that clearly defined – but it’s certainly a good start. My personal view, FWIW, is that genuinely new stories all start via personal experience (eg a visit to an event etc), press sources or a brand new web…
