iPod battery.

The iPod Battery is an imaginatively named high capacity external rechargeable bolt on battery which provides a whopping 40 hours of play time from one charge. Yes it’s big and yes it’s clunky – but it could be a useful tool, no, for those non-trouser pocket moments when you’re using it as a party hi-fi jukebox or on looonngg journeys?

Wise up.

Apparently a wave of smart talking, voice recognition enabled toys like the Shrek 2 Wise Crackin’ Donkey are heading our way, courtesy of some fancy chip technology from Sensory Inc. Personally I can’t wait for the day when I pick up a gadget or toy to tidy it away, and get lacerated with derisive abuse and snarky back chat. ‘The Shrek and Donkey characters can be spoken to, and they respond in an intelligent way to a range of predefined…

Tanks very much.

Tanks-a-Lot offer executive team building days out where you can drive tanks around fields and crush cars and things. One for the Microsoft product manager’s diaries perhaps? ‘We operate over 65 tanks on our challenging off road course and we are firmly established as the UK’s major specialists in corporate entertainment and fun days. Our very experienced staff ensure that everyone has an unforgettable experience at TANKS-A-LOT. Imagine the thrill of driving a 56 ton tank over a car…’

Digicam comparison.

I kind of missed this the first time around, but it’s too valuable to let slip. Ken Rockwell gives a brilliant, clear and concise exposition on why we should beware of buying 8 megapixel point and shoot cameras like the Canon Pro-1 and Sony 8700, and instead do ourselves a big favour and go for a Digital SLR (DSLR) with reflex mirror, proper interchangeable lenses and larger image sensors (examples are the Canon EOS300D and Nikon D70). This is despite…

WinUpdatesList.

WinUpdatesList is a pretty neat freebie utility that will list all of the Windows updates, service packs, hotfixes etc installed on your machine. It also lets you see what files have been updated by the fix, can open the Microsoft web page listing more info about the update, and even lets you uninstall if necessary. I reckon it’s gotta be one of those ‘must have in the toolkit’ utilities.

Pak it in.

Aaargh, those Pak-Lite people actually have a range of multicoloured LED clip-ons for 9V PP3 batteries. Including…gasp…ultraviolet and infrared versions. Everyone else seems to like them, but I still think they’re too expensive. So there! [Via GadgetMadness]

Brain freeze.

I’ve always wanted to know why you get a ‘brain freeze’ headache after eating ice-cream quickly, and now I know. More importantly, I know how to stop it. ‘When cold stuff (like popsicles, ice cream or slushies) touches the roof of your mouth it can set off a nerve reaction (in the spheno-palantine ganglion, to be precise), that causes the blood vessels in your brain to swell.’
