Jaw, jaw, bore, bore.

So people are using scary ringtones on their cellphones to help avoid people they don’t like? Wow, really? [Thanks Emily] ‘Mobile phone owners are using unflattering ringtones to help dodge “nuisance” calls from ex-lovers. Theme tunes to scary films such as The Exorcist are among the signals used as a warning that the call might not be welcome, a survey reveals today.’

See ya lata.

Sony has announced a new service that will transform the humble EyeToy peripheral into a video conferencing system. Eye Toy Chat, available in a month or so, ‘offers four very different ways to communicate including text, voice, video mail and one to one video chat. The text chat rooms allow 256 people to talk together, while 16 people can converse at one time in the voice chat rooms..’ Why does this picture of legions of giggling schoolgirls video gossiping wildly…

Mail menopause.

Darn those Google Gmail designers. They’ve gone and included a ‘skip Inbox’ filter which automatically archives incoming messages you designate, so that they don’t clutter up your inbox but are still searchable. Do you know what this means? It means that my archive idea works brilliantly. I’m now Bcc’ing all of my messages automatically, which are then being archived and made ready for later search and access. More importantly, it’s archiving whole message threads together which is very very cool….

Wireless warrior.

The SmartPad mini computer from Zupera has a pretty cool spec (note the GPRS mobile phone network capability). Windows CE.NET, SD slot, 7″ display, inbuilt mic and speaker, rechargeable battery and GPRS/CDMA module. And it’s also ‘compatible with 802.11b wireless module’ whatever that means.

Pointedly perfect.

The Wireless Presenter 100 is just a perfect idea. Forget about lugging laptops around to do those PowerPoint presentations, now all you need is this tiny USB plug-in flash memory unit and the wireless controller. Presto, presentations a go go! And the controller doubles up as a laser pointer – sheer suit heaven! Hey and it’ll run Winamp, Real and Windows Media player and Acrobat too. I think I’m in love.

YogiType – ‘The keyboard revolution -Working with a keyboard in a relaxed Yoga-posture.’ A Yoga based keyboard? Oh yes, this is what the world has been waiting for. No question. And unfortunately no pictures. ‘While working with the YogiTypeTM keyboard the palms face each other,…The best analogy for the posture while working on this keyboard would be like that while holding a book. The hands and fingers are positioned on the outside (the operating side of the keyboard where the…

Feel the force.

I am amazed that it’s taken them so long to develop a system which indicates just how hard a driver is braking by increasing the intensity of the brake lights. It’s such a no-brainer really, isn’t it? Anyway here’s the BMW Brake Force system. Should be mandatory on all cars. ‘Brake Force Display is a simple yet effective way of communicating to following traffic that the BMW in front is stopping quickly, providing extra advance warning of a potential road…

Gee mail…part II

Here’s interesting. Al Price has come up with a neat wheeze with his OE Quick Tools. Nice package all round, but one of the features that is really cool is an automatic Bcc function which automatically sends out a blind copy of every email you send from Outlook Express to a separate address of your choice. It occurred to me that if you set this up to send copies of all your outgoing messages to a GMail account, you would…

VoiceMiner.

I reckon a few of us could do with a portable version of Volexia’s VoiceMiner to stop us saying something we’ll regret later on. ‘Volexia offers a revolutionary solution that automatically creates XML speech index data from audio and video files, enabling rich media to be searched using text keywords and phrases. This allows an Administrator to create a collection of words that people should NOT use in a conversation…The system processes the sound files and when it comes across…

Next gen audio?

So how well are DVD-Audio and SACD discs doing in the marketplace? News follows at 10. Yes folks, another train wreck of a format war rolls out before our very eyes. Don’t buy that player just yet, will ya? ‘DVD-Audio sales remained stagnant in 2003, with a 0.08 percent increase in sales to approximately 400,000…SACD sales were tracked for the first time in 2003, showing 1.3 million discs sold during the year…But for the formats to become truly successful, major…

Retro design.

At the risk of being labelled a retro junkie, I’m going to feature another neat site – Retro 20th Century Design. I mean check out this superfragulous plastic bike for 6800 SEK. ‘We sell and buy International and scandinavian 20th century design, especially from the 50’s & 60’s such as furnitures, ceramics, glass, lighting, and jewelry.’
