Real7ime Converter.

Real7ime Converter. Tiny bit of freeware which claims to convert any RealPlayer stream to AVI/WAV/MP3 on demand in real time. Haven’t had a chance to try it yet, but if it works as advertised it could be quite a nice utility to keep in the tool chest.

Bookmooch.

BookMooch. Really really nice book swap system with a great design. It’s elegant, simple to get going and seems to be taking off a lot. One complaint? Will some Brits please start using the service – please pass this on to all your friends – so that we can get some traffic going this side of the pond? Thank you very much, this has been a public service announcement.  BookMooch lets you give away books you no longer need in…

Digest broken?

Hmm…apologies to our newsletter digest subscribers but it appears that the Zookoda system appears to be broken. To be honest I’m not that impressed. Their service has been patchy since Day one, their tech support – if you can laughably call it that – is pathetic, and all they’ve really got going for them is that the system is well thought out and simple to set up and administer. But no blinking good if it doesn’t work as advertised, eh? If anyone has…

Sound Sensor Keyhole Finder.

The Sound Sensor Keyhole Finder. So. Ever stumbled home after a looong night out, and had trouble finding the correct receptacle for your wavering and unsteady key? Eh? Well curse no longer, for this light will hear, a) the sound of your key scraping ineffectually against the adjoining wall, or b) the sound of your retching into the shrubbery, and illuminate the keyhole in joyous anticipation of your inebriated return to earth. Oh the joys of modern living. $4.97.  It’s not safe, fumbling…

future tech August 11, 2006 posted by

A photo cannot lie. Much.

There’s no question that some interesting technology is coming down the pipe to help produce the perfect photo. First off is the Israeli ‘beauty button’ which makes faces in digital images appear more attractive quickly and easily. Weird stuff? You bet. I fully expect to see an ‘instant Photoshop’ button appear on cameras and/or image editing software before the decade is out. It’s inevitable really, isn’t it? Slightly less controversial is the ‘blur remover’ tech, which was demonstrated recently at…

Photo or Graphic?

OK, which one is the photo and which the rendered computer graphic? Click on the thumbnail to get a closer look if you’re interested. Tricky huh?  This is an example of how Maxwell 1.0 reproduces the reality using few real-world parameters and reducing the setup time dramatically. In this case I (Jose-Martin “jomaga”) made some photos of a Cornell box (see below) and tried to reproduce it in Maxwell.

Googdesk.

Googdesk. Yes it’s heresy, but for some strange reason I like this. Google Smarter, they’re calling it. Maybe Google would be a bit better with some more options on the home page? Maybe…..? Anyway check it out for yourself and make up your own mind.
