Light Up Ice Cubes

Light Up Ice Cubes seem like a weird idea. Why would we want our milkshakes all lit up like a Christmas tree when it’s only November? And they blink too? You’re kidding, right? $19.99 for a 4 pack.  Just push a button to start them up and then place ’em anywhere you want to brighten or romanticize the festivities – the punch bowl or the pool, the bathtub or in a cocktail at your New Year’s Eve party. Reusable non-toxic glow…

Astromech – Official R2 Robot Builders Club

Astromech – The Official R2 Robot Builders Club. OK, so according to their brochure [PDF] there are around 5000 members worldwide, and they build R2 clones for anything between $500 and $40,000. The site features parts listings, tutorials, a registry and mailing list. This is seriously geeky, isn’t it, but you’ve gotta love it. [via Growabrain]   One can be made for as low as a few hundred dollars, to well into the thousands for an accurate, metal droid with lights,…

Amazemail – 10 GB free mailbox

Amazemail. Hmm…suspicious, me. An uber minimal interface that makes Google look bloated and a sign up process that promises to get back to you some time when. A spam email harvesting service? They promise 10 GB mail space. I put in my email address yesterday and have yet to hear anything back. ‘Nuff said?  1. What is interesting about Amazemail? Amazemail offers 10GB disk space for free with a nice, clean and screaming fast Ajax interface based on RoundCube that…

StorVision Mini VCR – video to memory card

The StorVision SV-1000 Mini VCR. Cute little box lets you copy any video you like from your television to a memory card. So you can happily transfer all those episodes of Lost, The Musical onto your PSP, smartphone or wherever else you need to watch on a tiny screen with tinny sound. Still and all, it’s a pretty neat product, if only because we love the colour blue. £95.00 (£109.00 including 5in1 card adapter).   Simply connect the miniVCR to…

Cosmo TV Bath

The Cosmo Hydromassage Television Bathtub. Q: What’s sleek, white and bubbles uncontrollably when a shampoo advert is on? A: Danni Minogue. And then there’s the Cosmo hydromassage (that’s bubbles to you and me) bath with integrated LCD television. Tell you what, dear reader, you’d better have more than one bathroom if you install this puppy, ‘cause there ain’t no way anyone’s getting in and out of this in less than half a day. £2995.00.  After much interest in our 2 person…

Ultra Wideband USB – RU ready for it?

So UWB (Ultra Wideband) USB Adapters have started shipping in Japan, eh? Right. Did anyone ask us whether we were ready to scatter wireless USB peripherals around our homes and offices? No they didn’t. Typical. And here we are just about coping with getting Bluetooth to work reliably. Tsk.  The hub is a four port wireless design that can seamlessly replace USB connections with a wireless one, allowing devices like printers, scanners, external hard drives and more to be placed anywhere…

Samsung SPH-P9000 – handheld PC, great spec

The Samsung SPH-P9000 handheld computer is a very cool looking piece of tech, with a spec to match. It comes with 1GHz CPU, Windows XP, 30GB hard disk, 256MB of RAM, 5 inch display, WiMAX, CDMA EV-DO, and a 1.3 megapixel camera. Phew. And it weighs just 580g. The real doozy though is that fold out keyboard, which looks like it actually could do the business. No word on price, but this is one design experiment that looks very interesting indeed.  The SPH-P9000 comes…

Swoop – the ultimate poop scooper

Swoop. Is this really the world’s best poop scooper? Apparently it grabs and bags your dog’s doings in one simple action. Oops, nearly said motion there. That wouldn’t do at all would it? Ahem, OK, so it’s £16.99 including 6 bags. ‘Nuff said?  The distinctive claw design mimics the human hand with a spread of over 6 inches. So enabling it to pick up all but the abnormally large! Whilst the reverse spring cleverly allows for a simple method of…

Like – visual shopping search

The good folk at Riya appear to have given up on face recognition search and launched a shopping search tool called Like.com . The new service is very clever and lets you find a product that looks similar to something you’ve seen or can describe. Hmm…why can’t I shake this feeling that they’ve blown through a bunch of VC cash and now the backers are demanding a product which can make money, and fast? So now, up pops this very vertical – ladies shopping…

Schmap Local – auto cut and paste

Paul Hallett, CEO of Schmap, sends me news of their latest toy, Schmap Local. It’s basically a browser plugin for speeding up online local search – say looking for a bike shop or whatever. Now instead of laboriously scribbling down the details, you just click a button to send the address and telephone number to your mobile phone, email or printer. It’s a small thing, but a real time saver. Only IE at the moment during the beta, but Firefox is coming in a…
