Protogo – turn your iPod into a geek toolbox

TechTool Protogo is a portable suite of diagnostic tools for the Apple Mac that you can load onto your old iPod instead of throwing it away. You can then use it to boot up, diagnose, test, recover data, virus check and optimise your Macintosh at will. Ten cool points in the office for whipping out a cultural icon to debug a problem computer, eh? Priced at $148.00.  Do you have an old iPod lying around? Or perhaps a small portable hard drive…

Art-o-Meter – critique a la geek

The Art-O-Meter. MIT concept that measures the quality of a piece of artwork based on the amount of time that people spend in front of the exhibit. Result? Sauntering equals approval. Mmm….really?   Art-O-Meter is a device that measures the quality of an art piece. It bases its evaluation on the amount of time that people spend in front of an artwork compared to the total time of exhibition. The measurements are graphically represented by comments and a 5 star rating system….

Casio GzOne Mobile Phone – tough like Arnie!

The Casio GzOne Mobile Phone is just about the toughest handset on the street. Apparently. It will survive immersion in water for up to 30 minutes (1 meter) and can be dropped repeatedly from 1.5 meters onto a steel plate over concrete. Did we mention tough? And it comes with a camera and all the other goodies you might expect, and some you might not, like onboard GPS.

Battery hacking – turn your 9V into 6 AAA cells

Clever emergency hack of a Duracell 9V battery pack to provide six AAA batteries. Not sure how safe, useful or cost effective this is, but it’s worth remembering. Maybe. Lots of disclaimers.  You will notice that these internal cells are a bit smaller than a normal “AAA” battery. However, by bending the attached tab on the internal cell, you can get it to work in most any application requiring a triple A cell, at least as a temporary fix until…

SofaTube

SofaTube is a neat little web application that lets you browse and watch videos from YouTube and Revver on your television set. As long as there’s an internet connected computer attached of course. Designed for the 10 foot, rather than the 2 foot experience see? Bigger fonts, boxes, navigation. Might be a bit sucky watching YouTube sized videos on a glorious 42” HD plasma though, eh? Still, this is definitely a bit of a subversive application when you really think about it.  SofaTube…

RIAA Toilet Paper – season’s greetings to the music biz

RIAA Toilet Paper. A wonderful way to remember our granny hassling friends in the music industry. At a novelty price of $5.95 a roll.  Ok, so, we are STILL laughing every time we see this product on our shelves…LMAO! Nothing compares with the way it feels when that text slides across your butt. Sorry for the high price, but you’re buying it for the novelty. When it comes to functionality, stick to Charmin.
