Logitech MX Revolution Mouse – hands on a rodent

Hmm…I’ve just started using a Logitech MX Revolution wireless mouse after my Kensington Expert Mouse Pro trackball died on me (what a useless, over-priced lump of junk. Cost me over $100.00 in the Westlake Fry’s and has fallen apart in just over a year). Anyway, first impressions are that this is probably the best Logitech mouse ever. It installed instantly (which for wireless is a bit wow) and I love the freewheel scroll, it’s a superb anti-RSI feature, which makes…

Blogg-Buzz – a Digg for blogs

Blogg-Buzz. New Digg type service for weblogs, which features interesting and useful blog posts. Members vote on the posts they like most. Now that Digg users have covertly declared war on blogs, maybe this kind of service will take off?  Blogg-Buzz is a user driven social content website. Ok, so what the heck does that mean? Well, everything on Blogg-Buzz is submitted by our community (that would be you). After you submit content, other bloggers read your submission and Buzz what they like…

AVAtrix HD Home Theater System – majorly moving movies

The Audio Authority AVAtrix HD Home Theater Routing System. Six in, seven out video routing system which will spit HD video around a Cat5 cable network faster than you can say, ‘let’s wire up the East Wing, darling.’ Are we right in thinking this is about $4000.00 a pop?  The AVAtrix is a matrix configuration of HD component video, digital audio and stereo audio signals. Any of six sources may be routed to multiple remote Wallplates or to the local…

JBL Creature II speakers – style and substance

The JBL Creature II Speakers offer 8 watts per channel in a distinctly un-boring form factor. Translation – they look purty and should be reasonably loud. They’ll work with computers, music players and portable media devices, but actually we just like the jellyfish shape. We’re shallow like that. $99.95.  Featuring cutting-edge sci-fi design and superior sound performance, JBL Creature II is a unique “plug and play” solution, compatible with all Macs and PCs – both desktops and portables – as well as MP3…

The TicTacToe Computer – Deep Blue turns pink?

The TicTacToe Computer was made completely out of Tinkertoys by some whizz kid students at MIT in the 70’s. And they say that geek adolescents waste their time a lot. Pshaw…!  The Tinkertoy computer is not fully automatic: a human operator must crank the read head up and down and must manage its input. After the computer’s opponent makes a move, the operator walks to the front of the machine to adjust the core piece inside the read head, registering…

Grooveshark – get paid for sharing music

Grooveshark. A peer to peer music file sharing service which provides legal no-DRM MP3 tracks, priced at 99 cents per, with a share of the profits going to the copyright holders and a share going to the users who are helping to build the community. It’s along the same sort of lines as Weedshare, but seems to be trying harder to focus on the community feel, through incentivising uploads etc. Mmm….not convinced.  Visitors can browse songs uploaded by other members…

IndieKarma – widgets + micropayments = interesting

IndieKarma is a rather interesting micropayments idea to help bloggers and website owners gain a little cash from their venture. The idea is that the owner embeds a widget on their home page and every time an IndieKarma member visits the site, one penny is deducted from their account. The big question is, will one of these schemes ever really take off and transform the web funding issue once and for all? Would readers for example, be willing to pay a penny every…

Camera Image Search – find photos by camera type

Camera Image Search is a fascinating little Ruby application which lets you search the Alexa web database for images according to which camera model was used. You can also do things like find images by exposure time or focal length. Really interesting little concept.  The Camera Image Search is a nifty little tool I stitched together using the Alexa Web Search Platform for source material and Amazon’s S3 for storage. The idea is to let people search for photos based…
