The iPod Black Box – aircraft data recorder goes white and curvy

Light aircraft maker LoPresti has announced that it will be using the Apple iPod as the flight data recorder – otherwise known as the ‘black box’ – on its Fury aircraft. The white box – doesn’t sound right does it? – will apparently store 500 hours of flight data. iTunes at 10,000 feet sounds groovy,  but surely there’s going to be a slight problem with robustness if you need to recover one for a crash analysis? Aren’t real black boxes suppose to survive fire,…

Netvibes2Go – your cool stuff now on your phone

Netvibes2Go is the latest feature to come out of the rather excellent Netvibes labs. Just set up a tab called ‘mobile’, populate it with your preferred content including email services, RSS feeds, etc and then navigate to http://m.netvibes.com to get full access to it all on your mobile phone or device. Just tried it with my Nokia N800 and it works beautifully. For those of you who don’t know what Netvibes is, try it out, it’s superb. Tags: netvibes, mobile+phone

Nope, we don’t have any to give away, we’re very unwashed.  These BitTorrent files are meant for the distribution of backup files. By downloading the BitTorrent file, you are claiming that you…

Still on its way to market at the moment, so no news on price. The video is cool and worth watching.  The…

Tango! – tackling speech handicaps, 21st century style

The Tango! is a new communications device aimed at helping those with severe speech problems, such as those with Cerebral Palsy and Autism, to communicate. The Windows CE based unit combines a digital camera and flash, with a recordable phrase generator which speaks a sentence out loud via a synthesised voice when a large icon button is pressed. There are a few of these ‘augmentative and alternative communicators’ around, but this one seems to be quite innovative. Priced at $6,899.00 or…

Convert your Windows XP to Windows Vista – dangerous liaisons

Feeling brave and yet too cheap to splash out more money to Microsoft? Then download the free Vista Transformation Pack and transform your boring old Windows XP interface into a shiny new Windows Vista look-alike. Why brave? Because this skinning stuff has a tendency to dig itself deep into the guts of your PC, which can make it tricky to uninstall if it doesn’t work properly. In other words, don’t do this unless you’re prepared to re-format your machine and start again…

i.Dear Wood Speaker – trees a crowd?

The i.Dear Wood Speaker is a tiny 1.5W speaker on a keychain with a wooden case and a rechargeable Li-Polymer battery.  It’s clearly designed to broadcast your mobile phone secrets, although it will also work with ordinary media players. Although our Korean is a little rusty, we believe that it uses USB to re-juice, and lasts for a full 5 hours per charge. Cutesy, eh? Around $25.00 in Won-like. Tags: wood+speaker, portable+speaker
