Mr. P is about 4” tall. Available in white and orange Tags: cable+tidy

Yuuguu – file and desktop sharing goes cross platform

Yuuguu is a screen share, desktop application share and IM freeware tool which is one of the only programs of its type that’s available for both Mac and PC. Which is very interesting. It works OK, but the lag is horrific, which makes any form of remote control almost impossible. And that’s on fast broadband connections. Definitely one to watch though, if they can get the speed issues worked out it could be excellent.  Yuuguu is a clever little tool that…

Off grid electricity gets real – (at a price)

The Stuart Island Energy Initiative proves that you can manufacture electricity enough to power your home along with some spare Hydrogen if you’re prepared to work for it. And spend around $50,000. Which is way better than spending $500,000 of course. And here’s a useful link if you want to learn more about domestic Hydrogen and fuel cell tech.   What are our goals? We were tired of hauling banks of 120 lb batteries to our remote, off-the-grid island home. We were tired…

Nimzy Vibro Max – omni directional sound generator speaker

The new Nimzy Vibro Max takes vibrating sound surface speakers to a new level. It says here. Well at least in loudness, since it outputs a rather impressive 20W RMS. The last time we listened to one of these types of product, the sound was really quite yuck. Wonder if it’s any better now? £79.99 to find out.  The amazing follow up to the Vibro Blaster turns any flat surface into a speaker. No bigger than a rubix cube, the…

Flu Fleur – sound activated flower power

Flu Fleur flaps and blinks red every time it hears a noise or talking close by. Rather like that over emotional cousin you had staying last Christmas. $21.00 in Danish stuff.  Flu Fleur is Flip Flap in blossom … and then again not! Because where Flip Flap needs light to live Flu Fleur needs sound. Place it on your desk and it will flap its petals and blink in red every time there is talking/noices around it. It is Little…

MagnoGrip – holding your bits tightly

MagnoGrip. Say it in one of those loud, deep Hollywood voices and it sounds just like an arch villain from X-Men. But it’s not. It’s a wristband magnet which holds all those useful bits and pieces you need to hand when you’re doing stuff. Like DIY stuff. Around the house. Please do be aware that waving strong magnets in and around computer equipment may not be a life enhancing experience, so in this case geekeat emptor. $14.99.  The MagnoGrip is a…

Microlending review – Kiva wins

Slate has just done a review of microlending services – that provide small loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries – and Kiva has come out top. I’m glad about that, because I actually lent some money to the scheme after we featured it on the Ferret a while back (see, we do eat our own dogfood so to speak) and thought it was a great idea and superbly done. Already the entrepreneurs I lent to have started to pay back the…

M-Bird MP3 Player – the tiny tiny boombox

The M-Bird MP3 Player must be vying for the smallest media player with stereo speakers on-board. Of course calling it a ‘’boombox’ may be exaggerating a little, even if the specs – inbuilt FM tuner, recording from radio etc – are pretty decent. $189.00 and available in a few colours.  Along with MP3, unprotected WMA, and OGG audio files, it’ll play AVI, MPEG, WMV, and ASF video files (after converting with the included software), JPEG images, and TXT files (with auto scrolling). Includes an FM…
