Electrici-tree – power lead gets artsy

The Electrici-tree power extension is one designer’s attempt to prettify the mundane. And it’s not a bad effort at that. Not sure about the idea of using magnets to stick the cable up the wall on metal plates (one or two heavy plugs should bring that down fairly fast) but it’s a start isn’t it? Everystockphoto – 1 million free photos

EveryStockPhoto.com is an image search engine which has catalogued over 1 million free photos from places like Flickr and Stock Xchang. These general purpose image sources are pretty useful, although you really only find the ‘quality’ shots from the more specialised services, so be aware that you tend to get what you pay for. That saying, places like Stockxpert are pretty awesome for design and illustration stuff.  We are now searching over one million free photos! We have been adding…

Hobo – new release, new site, new shoes, new screencasts

For those of you following our Open Source Hobo project – the web application builder for Ruby on Rails – from this blog, stuff has happened. We’ve just done a major Hobo release, revamped the site and uploaded a couple of cool new screencasts showing how to create and customise a Hobo Rails application quickly and easily. Tom’s even burnt the midnight oil till it blackened his face to deliver a Hobo Manual, which means that it should be much…

SkypeFind – local listings in your Skype client

SkypeFind is a new beta feature from the upcoming Skype 3.1 which is highly significant, although I haven’t seen anyone talking about it as such. They’re basically offering local listings search and user reviews of businesses in your area all done from the comfort of your Skype client. Yep, VoIP goes search. It’s important because the consensus is that local search is going to be *huge* as the technology evolves, and so Skype is really entering an arena already populated by mega-corps…

Gold Cassette Belt Buckle – gold plated retro fancy

The Gold Cassette Belt Buckle may look gauche to your trained eye, but to many lesser mortals the 18K gold plate, bronze tape and stylishly retro look shrieks out to their inner soul. The $210.00 calls out to our wallet too, but we’re simply not listening.  This belt buckle was made from an actual cassette tape. The inside pieces also twist like a tape would. The front has a shiny polish and the back is matt. It’s 18K gold plated/filled with…

Plus Minus Zero CD Radio – the minimalist mini

The Plus Minus Zero CD Radio. If you find anything more minimalist, please wrap it up tenderly and plant it under the nearest Bonsai tree. Thank you.  But the audio systems around us which we use to play beautiful, enjoyable music on have no soul – they’re just machines. They’re showy and can be customized right down to the last operative detail, and at first glance appear good for all people, but in reality, are they not completely unnecessary functions…

Jeweled Desk Accessories – bling is king

The Neiman Marcus Jeweled Desk Set takes desktop flatulence to a whole new level really, doesn’t it? And at $79.90 for a stapler, we’re also flying high in the realms of pink pigs and fairy dust wings. Anyhoo, no doubt there are those of our esteemed colleagues who will jump at the chance to spend $87.90 (reduced from $110.00) on a tape dispenser, but you can count us out of that party. Metal Pad DDR Platinum Pro – metal gear solid

The Metal Pad DDR Platinum Pro is proof that in some places on this planet there are people for whom Dance Dance Revolution is nearer to a religion than a game. Needless to say we don’t understand any of it. Especially the ‘hot of arcade party!’  It’s the debut of new-concept Commercial dance pad. It is designed for firmness and reliability, and it surely will appeal to those top players for its smoothness. 3-times firmness, 9 stainless steel pads, together with thick metal frame…

I Let You – set up your own personal Netflix online store

I Let You (Iletyou.com) is a pretty bold adventure in user generated content. It basically lets anyone set up a Netflix type video and game rental store for free, using their own stock and charging their own prices. The idea is that many people have huge collections of discs which they  can profit from, either via renting out or exchanging within the community. It’s brave all right, if only because many pundits predict that on-demand movies and games will eventually…

Imagini – discover yourself and others using images

Imagini is a cool and interesting new service that lets you build a personal profile through your relationship with images. Train the system with your choice of images and then find others with similar tastes. The Ferret is closest to a user called grnbc, with a 61% shared taste in images. Does that mean we could become bestest friends? Your guess is as good as mine. Still, definitely fun, and who knows, it could end up as quite a happy social network. …

Retro iPod Alarm Clock – wake up Wendy

The Retro iPod Alarm Clock Dock is clearly designed for those who need to mix in a healthy dollop of old with the convenience of new.  Slot your iPod into the base and pretend like it’s an old style alarm clock. When it wakes you with your playlist, you can then slap a button on the top to trigger a snooze function. Wow. And the speakers are even disguised as olde worlde alarm bells. Awww, cute. £39.95.  The Retro iPod Alarm Clock even features…
