Mechanical Mustang – ride ’em flab face

The Mechanical Mustang Riding Horse. Back in the day a mechanical Mustang was something that Steve McQueen drove very fast through San Francisco, but tymes changeth. Today, it’s a high energy workout machine that wouldn’t look out of place in your front parlour [Eh…Ed?]. We can’t vouch for it’s effectiveness in losing those pounds, but we do predict that the fad for these things will fade away as quickly as it did for those little belts you strap on which are supposed to pulse your fat…

Wireless Multimedia Flexible Keyboard – bendy, wendy, blue

This Wireless Multimedia Flexible Keyboard gets our unequivocal vote because it’s a pretty shade of blue. We like blue, don’t we children? OK, so it’s bendy, 2.4 GHz, 104 keys and all that boring jazz. But look at the colour. Fab. Oh and it’s ‘strong and silent’ which is far too cool a tag line to ignore. $29.00.  Wireless Multimedia Flexible Keyboard, which is strong, silent and indestructible, is made of a high quality silicone material. It is also storable and portable…

Cushion Control – remote this, baby

Cushion Control. Embedding remote control buttons into full sized cushions is either a stroke of genius or madness. To be honest we can’t figure out which yet. Anyway, it’s certainly fun no doubt.  A new generation of remote controls: a bunch of different cushions each having its own function: one for the channels, one for the power, one for the volume and so on. These remote controls can be thrown around, transforming the fights over “who has the remote” into…

Cool Web 2.0 applications for small businesses

The Web 2.0 ‘revolution’ is throwing up some interesting products as small development companies start to scratch their own itch in terms of growing their businesses. These companies are literally creating their own online tools and sharing them with the world. Here’s a small selection of some of the more interesting ones of the moment.  Cashboard. Very cool online application that gives estimates, time tracking and invoicing in a simple to use package. It’s very alpha and sluggish as snails,…

Top Thunderbird Add-Ons – superb tools for email management

The Best Extensions for Thunderbird 2.0. Four add-ons for the Mozilla email client which offer extended features. Have I told you how much I am loving my move away from Outlook Express to TB? No, well let me bore you more. Thunderbird is an absolutely superb piece of technology, and the ability to extend the feature set is fantastic. I installed these extensions immediately, and the two that stand out are QuickText and Nostalgy. Quicktext is an awesome extension which lets you…

Super Battery – wind-up power for your gadgets

The Super Battery recharging device contains a 5 volt, 700 amp rechargeable power pack which you can supplement with a quick wind-up if you need more juice while on the road. Seems like a pretty useful combination from here. $34.95.  Super Battery uses superior USB connection to recharge your iPod. Just keep Super Battery plugged in to any AC outlet overnight, and it fully recharges — holding that charge for at least two weeks. And should you use up Super…

Laser Cosmos – the sky at night

Judging by all the fuss, the Laser Cosmos star field projector is a really cool bit of kit. We can’t definitely comment because we haven’t seen it in action yet, but the retailers certainly seem to rate it. Apparently the main thing is that it appears to be 3D, which gives it the kind of depth normally missing from these gizmos. Anyhoo, it’ll cost ya £149.00 to find out.  Imagine lying in your room, and having the ceiling whipped away…

Star Wars Chubbies – huh?

Star Wars Chubbies. Er…what is there to say about this bizarre Russo/US toy collectible mashup? Nothing probably. From £7.95.  There are currently six dolls to collect and most show the evolution of their character, so Darth Vader opens up to reveal Episode III Anakin, who in turn opens up to reveal that annoying twerp from Episode I; Alec Guinness era Obi Wan opens up to reveal the bearded Jedi from Episode III, who in turn contains the fresh faced young…

Greenprint – save paper, save trees

Greenprint. Very nice idea, a small print utility to save paper by not printing out unnecessary stuff. I really get hacked off wasting a sheet of paper when the system prints out just the page header or whatever from an email or document, so this is definitely a Good Product. Should be freeware though, really. $35.00.  GreenPrint is a simple idea, but it solves a problem nearly everyone can relate to: The ubiquitous wasted page. This is the page with…

Fixya – free online gadget repair help

Fixya is an online consumer product repair community. Log on and the community experts will try and offer advice on how to fix those annoying problems with your favourite gadgets. Bearing in mind that nowadays it’s literally cheaper to throw away a digital camera than try and get it fixed, it would be really good if this site did well, doncha think? We’ve featured the same kind of site before, but really, the more then merrier. [Via Gizmag]  The idea…

Custom Oakley Thumps – bling your own MP3 shades

Customise your Oakley Thump Pro MP3 Sunglasses before you buy (including your own choice of etched phrase on the lenses) using the trendy online configurator. Shame that the $345.00 won’t give you more than a measly 512K of memory though, eh? Plainly you’re paying a premium for the ‘sweat resistant Unobtainium components’. Thank goodness for that. Bluetooth Wireless Speakers – from phone to hi-fi, without passing go

Bluetooth Wireless Speakers. Let’s just say that you have an urge to play the Tom Jones tracks on your mobile phone loudly. And you can’t be bothered to buy the right cable, connectors and fiddle around plugging the thing into your Hi-Fi system. Well in that case, this might be the answer. Each speaker has a 60W amp inside, so they’re going to be louder than the handsfree on your cell phone, that’s fer sure. But just think what you…

USB Keyholder – high tech key store nonsense

The USB Keyholder…ah…holds your keys. Safely. Stick it on your wall and you can just plug your keys in when you get in the door. Now what would be really cool would be a real functioning socket that actually synched your data when you came home. Ah well… Tags: gadget, usb+keyholder

Linux Wireless LAN Support – get that network working

The Linux Wireless LAN Support site is a pretty useful resource if you find yourself wrestling with WiFi compatibility on your shiny new Linux laptop. It contains just about everything you need to know about the wireless cards, chipsets and drivers.  (Speaking of which, I successfully ran up the Ubuntu LiveCD on an ancient laptop here at Ferret Towers yesterday without a glitch, which was rather excellent. But oh I do wish they’d configure these things to connect to the…
