Flying Saucers are coming – fly low, fly safe, fly by

Geoff Hatton is currently developing a real live working flying saucer. And it’s actually quite a cool bit of tech, no sign of aluminium beanie hats anywhere. His company GFS Projects has just grabbed some headlines because the US military visited his factory to see what he’s up to. Doesn’t mean a thing in the long run of course, but hey, the videos are still pretty neat.  The GFS UAV Our UAV is capable of vertical take off, fully controlled flight,…

Similar Minds Free Personality Tests – so what are you REALLY like?

We first mentioned the Similar Minds site a few years ago, and it looks as though they’ve now added more tests and categorised things better. There’s also a forum now, so you can chat away with like minded seeker types. Anyhoo, this is a great destination if you’re looking to find the ‘real you’, if you get what we mean. A whole bunch of free personality tests, some detailed, some short. A cool collection, but beware, you might discover more…

Cozi Central – the family portal

Cozi Central. There’s something logical about using technology to reassemble the fragmented 21st century family, but we’re not sure just how practical these online portals are without a simple input mechanism. Family calendars, to-do lists and the like are great, but if everyone has to insert data via a computer it becomes more of a hassle than a time-saver. In our opinion of course. Nevertheless this version looks nice enough and is worth investigation.  Cozi Central makes life easier, less…

Polaroid Backup – click free archives

The Polaroid Backup. Yep, Polaroid gets this week’s innovative gadget name award. But perhaps we shouldn’t be so mean, after all the CGA-02540 Media Backup does feature ‘Click-Free’ technology. Just plug it into your USB port and it will automatically scan your hard drive for photos and copy them over. Of course if you’ve got more than 40GB of images stored on your computer, there could be problems, but let’s gloss over that quickly, shall we? $139.99.  Store and protect…

Mobivox – voice activated Skype on mobile phones

I recently started testing the beta version of Mobivox and it’s pretty cool. Think of a service that lets you access all your Skype contacts and make Skype and SkypeOut calls from your mobile phone. But instead of relying on software downloads, computers and stuff it’s all done via a simple local call and voice commands. You dial a local number to access the service, and are then prompted to speak the name of the Skype contact you want to call. The…

IntelliScanner Mini – barcodes are my life, Jack

The IntelliScanner Mini is a handheld barcode scanner which…ah…lets you scan barcodes. Sure it may not sound as exciting as the Baja 1000 Race, but think of the possibilities. Record collection catalogues, grocery lists, book lists. Geek on, dude. $299.99.  Luckily, most things have barcodes, and we’ve got a barcode reader. Not only is this teeny little handheld read those barcodes, it can do so without a computer attached to it. Take it to where your stuff is, scan up…

Ultimate Smallest MP3 Player – oops, where’d it go?

The Ultimate Smallest MP3 Player. Getting ridiculous here peeps. How small are we gonna get before we lose the thing under our fingernail? And what’s with the headphones being heavier than the device itself? Whoosh! Anyhoo, it’s got an in-built FM radio, 2GB of memory (200 hours of music) and handles MP3, WMA, ASF and WAV. $99.95.  But there is more to the tiny device than 200 hours of non-stop music. There is a built-in 3.7V lithium battery, which will enable hours of continuous playtime between charges. It…

The TAM Rocket Belt – fly away Peter, fly away all…

The TAM Rocket Belt. Gotta say, looking at them all glistening and gleaming in a row like that, you can almost imagine that one day we really will be scooting around using something like this. Then of course the reality of stodgy government regulations steps in to destroy our fantasy. What hope when they couldn’t even let the Segway roll on in peace….?  TAM is the only company in the world that produces a complete turn-key package of a flying…
