Booksnap – the manual book ripper lets you create your own e-book library

Booksnap is a book ripper, not a scanner, OK? You place the book in the v shaped holder, and use a brace of digital cameras to snap photos of the two pages. The software then does all the clean-up and conversion to PDF for you automatically. The samples look OK, but it’s going to take patience to keep flicking the pages, although they say 500 pages an hour. Yours for a mere $1595.00. [via Gizmodo]   BookSnap digitizes books at…

Diamond Flower Mouse – expensive, optical, insane

The Diamond Flower Mouse is unremarkable save for the fact that it is made of white gold and inlaid diamonds will set you back £14,995.00. Who buys this stuff? Can someone point them in my direction, because I’ve got a bridge I need to sell real fast…?  Upper case and buttons of the Diamond Flower are made of 750 white gold. More here.  VSI is now under contract to develop the Helmet Mounted Display System (HMDS) for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter aircraft. Some of…

101 Things to Do with Spare CD ROM Disks – just stay away from the microwave oven, OK?

101 Things to do with CD ROM Disks. Title says it all really. Don’t just throw them away, recycle. Oh and you realise that this applies to DVD disks too, don’t you? You do? Awesome.  Apparently the trick to cutting CDs is to warm them with a hair dryer and then use utility kitchen scissors. Tags: 101+uses+for+CD+ROM+disks, recycle, CD+DVD

Best Used By – track your perishable foodstuffs online

Best Used By. We’re kind of confused by this one. So on the one hand it’s a free, clever and rather useful online application to let you keep track of the Best By dates on your groceries, which is a neat alternative to the DaysAgo digital day counter gadget. On the other hand we’re wondering just how many people will bother to keep updating a computerised grocery list every time they do a shop? Anyhoo, for those who do keep up, the…

Locate TV – good looking television search engine

Locate TV is a new television search engine which gives you a fast, clean search service for programs and movies on your box. The interface is lovely Web 2.0, it’s international (US & UK) and you can embed a widget into a web page to receive reminders when the show or film is about to be broadcast. But to be honest it’s not got the power or flexibility of my fave TV Genius (which unfortunately is still UK only), but which lets me set…
