AdReady – create and run your very own banner ad campaign quickly and easily

AdReady. The latest in a growing line of do-it-yourself advertising services. We’ve already talked about this DIY advertising genre before, as well as WipBox and Spotrunner, so this sector is obviously filling some sort of need. This is the first time I’ve seen banner ads covered though, which is an interesting twist. I’m not a great fan of this cheesy type of animated advertising in general, it’s not exactly top notch creativity at work, although to be fair some of their…

Hotspot Shield – WiFi security software provides useful anonymous proxy effect too

Hotspot Shield from Anchor Free is a very cool browser add-in which adds VPN security to your WiFi session. Result hack and snoop free surfing over wireless connections. It’s free, works on Mac and PC and also provides anonymous surfing facilities so you can use geo-locked applications from outside the country of origin (which is very useful if your ISP routes its traffic via Katmandu or whatever). It is also incredibly easy to install and use, no fiddling around with settings…

My Red Ferret city – ridiculous thing…

My Mini City, Red Ferret, is now flourishing thanks to you all. This is totally ridiculous…why am I checking this thing, it’s pointless and silly. Get out of my head, OUT… (pssst….we need more factories…[update] er…and transport) Tags: myminicity, game

Remote Controlled Tea Lights – flicker, flicker, snuff, snuff…

These Remote Controlled Tea Lights combine the best of all worlds. The ‘I can’t be bothered to move’ remote says…well…you can’t be bothered. To get up, light real candles, blow them out, etc etc. The cutesy flickering flame effect says, ‘But hey, I can still be a sensitive soul, can’t I?’ What a perfect match. Oops, sorry… $69.99.  These remote-controlled tealights flicker like real candles but use LED lights, so they’re safe for use in any location in and around your home….

VRX Mach 4 – quad screen game racing rig nearest thing to being there?

The new VRX Mach 4 is being billed as the world’s first quad screen race simulator. It’s powered by four Xbox 360s, giving 4 teraflops of power, with one console dedicated to powering a 7 inch rear view monitor. Rear view? Manic! You’ve got 1080p resolution, Harmon Kardon surround sound, tactile vibration feedback system, twin virtual wind fans, LED lighting effects and a ‘beverage containment system’. Now that’s a gaming rig, dude.  VRX is committed to total excellence in developing…

G100 GumEase – dental surgery without needles or pain?

The new G100 GumEase promises to give pain-free dentistry without the need for nasty needles jabbed into your tender parts. Just stick the thing in the freezer for half an hour, then pop it into your mouth over your gums. The reusable device will freeze your gums and make them impervious to pain, drilling and all dental work side-effects. If the effect starts to wear off, just pop another popsicle into your mouth and carry on. Sounds a little too good…

HyperDrive 4 – super fast solid state drive enclosure takes up to 32 GB

HyperDrive 4. This solid state drive array looks like a pretty cool product. The box – dubbed the fastest internal hard drive in the world – fits into a standard CDROM bay, takes a maximum of 8 sticks of standard 4 GB RAM, and gives you a solid state hard drive which is 200 times faster than a conventional disk (we’re talking 7 minutes to install Windows XP, vs 40 minutes on a hard disk, and 2 seconds to boot it!). It’s all…

Zamzar – online file conversion done well

I deliberately didn’t follow the Zamzar file conversion service hype when it first came out, preferring to wait and let it all settle down. I’ve now tried it – to convert a PDF to a Word document – and can report that it’s pretty whizzo. That means good if you’re from Red Ferret, Mauritania. You upload the file, give your email address, select the conversion wanted and wait. A short while later the link arrives with the download of your converted…

BBC iPlayer – Britain’s finest television now available in glorious Flash

Whoa, the BBC iPlayer is now available in a Flash version which makes it accessible to all of those people with non-Windows environments. Let’s shout a great big huzzah from the rooftops and forgive Auntie for her past mistakes. I’ve got a feeling you won’t be able to access the content outside of the UK though, which is similar to the rest of the world not being able to access Hulu.com outside the US. Hmm…we all need a nicely functioning geo-spoofing…

My Mini City – Sim City meets a cute web traffic generator game

My Mini City is a new online game that automatically builds a Sim City type environment for you out of user visits. You start things off by creating a city on a virtual planet map, and then hand out the location link to your friends and family – that means you in this case peeps – and once they start visiting the site your city grows (one action, per person, per day is counted). Oh and different links give your city…

Astrolabium Clock -return your timepiece to the mantlepiece where it belongs, dear fellow

Astrolabium Clock. At the completely other end of the universe from the Big Ben LED and binary clock family of geek toys, lies this throwback reproduction of an 18th century German master crafted timepiece. Sure it can’t give you the weather in Montezuma, but doesn’t art mean anything to you, you poor benighted child of the oughties? $1,499.95.  With its roots in the astrolabes developed by the ancient Greek astronomers to determine the position of the sun and stars, this…
