Gas Powered Tool Box – save your arms, let the ATV take the strain

Fed up with lugging your tool box around? Wish there was a better way? Well maybe you need to chat with these guys, who appear to have embedded a full size mechanics tool box in a quad-bike . We’re talking 110 cc of motorized spanner totin’ glory, complete with passenger seat for your friend to hitch a ride. Fabulously ridiculous, no? More videos here and here. 1000 True Fans – how to make money in the new media landscape

1000 True Fans. This piece has been circulating around the Net recently and it seems to make a fair bit of sense. The basic premise is that instead of shooting for blockbuster, megastar status, artists should aim to cultivate a small but loyal fan base willing to spend a small sum to support the artist’s work. On the face of it, this is very logical. Nowadays the revolution in communications has made it almost trivial to reach audiences across the globe for…

The parlous state of mainstream journalism – or has big business finally killed off real news?

The next time someone sneers at blogs as being sub-standard in some way to ‘real journalism’, try quoting them this passage from the Media Lens review of Guardian journalist Nick Davies’ interesting (I could use the word disturbing, but I won’t) new book Flat Earth News. Blogging is far from perfect, especially when it tries too hard to ape the mainstream media, but at least it holds out some distant hope for a new approach to the news and information process. Ah well…churnalists indeed!…

Arterial Hardness and Blood Pressure Monitor – the heart attack detector?

Arterial Hardness and Blood Pressure Monitor. Surprisingly cheap and rather ugly gadget could potentially be a life saver if it works as advertised. Measuring your arterial health is never going to be a pleasant job, especially since the tiny little robot rabbits have trouble running up and down them with the tape measure, but hey, if it helps you live longer, why complain? £29.99.  Arteries stiffen naturally with age. Arterial stiffening generally begins in your 20s or 30s. However, the…

Pocket Bottle – the world’s weirdest iPod dock?

Pocket Bottle. We had to check it wasn’t April 1st with this one, but it seems to be real. Billed as a handy home for your personal electronics, it looks to be a plastic water bottle with a dent in it. Oh and some nylon bands which you use to strap your precious $800 iPhone to the plastic. Nah, surely not?  They even claim it can be used as a gadget dock in your car, just stick it in the cup…

Cheers Fring. The best of the best communication tool on your mobile phone. Period. The latest update installs flawlessly, works brilliantly and is still completely free. Wonderful. Netvibes Ginger. Giant Anglepoise Lamp – super cool 70th aniversary lamp says it bigger, brighter and more retro

This 70th anniversary Giant Anglepoise Lamp gets our vote as the lighting implement of the week. The gorgeous retro 1930’s design still holds its own in the style stakes, although we can’t help feeling that having a mammoth lampshade hanging over their shoulder could make your visitors feel a trifle uncomfortable in one of those malevolent whack-a-mole Pixar icon kinda ways. £1,450.00.  To celebrate the 70th Birthday of the original 1227 Anglepoise Lamp this three times life-size Anglepoise has been created. Each lamp is…

Popstar – cell phone game gives you control over your own pop star, Tamagotchi style

Popstar is a free Java mobile phone game which lets you live out your fantasies of being Michael Jackson. Or maybe not. Anyway, the idea is that you raise your little star to the heights of fame and success by touring, rehearsing and snorting white…sorry where were we? Oh yes. And buying better equipment. It’s an ad supported game, and needs Internet access on your handset, so you’d better have a flat rate data plan, chum.  The overall idea is…

Is…
