Dual Mode Vehicle – aka the little yellow train bus

The Dual Mode Vehicle is a cute little bus which also doubles up as a train. It uses a quarter of the diesel of a conventional bus, carries 25 people and takes less than 15 seconds to convert between rail and road via a nifty hydraulic system. Having spent a week travelling on the fab Portland tram/train system which moves from suburban to urban transportation without a hitch, I’m thinking this is pretty cool tech.  Combing the versatility of a bus…

Solar Powered Plant Pot – because you can never have too many coloured lights

These Solar Powered Plant Pots seem somewhat superfluous to me. After all, isn’t the purpose of a plant pot to show off the plant? What happens when the pot starts competing with the plant for glory? Disaster, that’s what. Still, what do I know? £22.95 ($45.40).  As its name suggests, this stylish designer pot soaks up the sun’s rays in order to charge an internal battery that powers several built-in LEDs. As night falls the entire pot begins to glow,…

Oversized Keyboard – help for those ageing eyes, dude

The Oversized Keyboard is actually more of an oversized keycaps product, but nevertheless it’s still a useful product if you’re finding it tricky reading those tiny letters and numbers. Right now the Ferret keyboard could do with *any* letters in places, never mind large ones. Still, it’s fun guessing which is which when you’re blogging in the dark. $19.98.  Oversized computer keyboard makes it easier to type and navigate the Internet. Large, easy-to-read letters and numbers are especially helpful for…

Guitar Chords – free software contains 40,000 guitar chords

Guitar Chords is a freeware program which contains a database of 40,000 guitar chords. That’s it really. The chords are all in tab notation, and while they call it ‘simple’, I would probably call it a little primitive. Here’s a nice selection of alternative guitar chord resources. My favourite – Tags: freeware, guitar+chords, guitar

RSSVoyage – the mouse wheel RSS reader

RSSVoyage is a Flash based RSS reader which operates solely through the mouse. Swipe the rodent right and left on the desk to access random material from your feeds, and twirl the mouse wheel to dive back into the deeply nostalgic timeline of news from up to 2 days ago. You can add your own feeds as you wish, but don’t expect a lot of customisation options, because there aren’t any. Nevertheless it’s kinda cool. Kew Gardens Treetop Walkway – playing like a monkey is fun…

Kew Gardens Treetop Walkway. We took a trip to the brand new £3 million Kew Gardens Treetop Walkway yesterday. It was pretty impressive too. You wander around the trees nearly 60 feet above the ground. Great view, but don’t look down and remember to smile gamely as the walkway sways ever so slightly in the wind. There’s also a Bluetooth game called TreeMate which you can play via your mobile phone, to get facts and photos on the trees you’re enjoying. The…

Terrafugia Transition – the ‘roadable’ aircraft

The Terrafugia Transition is a plane that thinks it’s a car. Or vice versa. Interesting factoids for ya. They’re estimating a final price of $148,000, first production late 2009, cruise speed 115mph, range 460 miles, gas consumption 23 mpg, reverse gear, two seats and ethanol capable. So a Porsche it ain’t, but think of the glee as you fly over the I-95 donkeys on a damp Monday morning.  How will the Transition handle on the ground and in the air?…

Sanyo HD1010 Xacti Camcorder – sleek, shiny high tech video recording thing

Sanyo HD1010 Xacti Camcorder. May we just pause here for a moment and say how much we enjoy the styling smarts of this product? From it’s early rather clumsy days, the Xacti is now a force to be reckoned with and one that looks good too. With HD 1080i video, 4 megapixel still images, 10 x optical zoom, image stabilisation, face detection, wind roar and redeye reduction, SD card storage and web cam functionality. It’s a nice solid spec list, isn’t…

Mandriva Flash 2008 Spring – aka Linux on a stick

Mandriva Flash 2008 Spring is the first commercially produced Linux USB key on the market. It’s an 8GB flash drive, so plenty of space for other stuff too (around 6 GB!). It’s all very clever stuff, and once again highlights the ingenuity of the Open Source crowd when it comes to making useful tools. €59.00.
