Translate.net – freeware translation program covers 38 languages, capice?

Translate.net is a free translation program which offers up 38 languages from 35 translation services including Google, Yahoo! Babelfish, Systran and Wikipedia. The majorly cool thing is the fact that your translation is delivered from a selection of multiple services simultaneously, so you can choose which version you want to use. Windows only though, and it needs .NET, but definitely worth a download. Oh and it’s Open Source, so the source code is also available if anyone wants to extend…

CamSpace – control your video games and computer programs with your webcam

CamSpace is a new freeware program that lets you use your webcam as a controller. Well to be more precise you use any tool you like but the webcam software turns it into a controller. It’s kind of an extension to the Sony EyeToy technology, only in this case you can use a hairbrush, piece of paper or even two bits of brightly coloured paper stuck to your fingers to control your computer mouse, steer a car or fly a plane….

Muso – voice control for your iPod

The Muso is a small gadget that plugs into your iPod to provide voice control for your music player. It apparently synchs with iTunes directly and needs no training, so once installed you can start shouting ‘Gimme some good ole ROCK & ROLL’ at the top of your voice on the commuter train and you’ll be good to go. Probably. It’s self powered and the battery lasts 10 hours, which definitely should be enough time to get you thrown out…

Healing USB Owl – to whit, to who?

Apparently these Healing USB Owls have a ‘mysterious healing power’. Nope, not a clue. The cute video is not much use either. Maybe it’s something to do with the nodding head and slowly blinking eyes? Anyhoo, hand over $22.00 and you’ll see just how healthy your wallet feels. Tags: healing+usb+owl, gadget, novelty, usb

Chinese UFO spotted hovering over pigeon’s head – birds nervous

A Chinese UFO type craft has been spotted hovering around in the skies of Shanghai recently. Not very high up in the skies we ought to say, because the craft can only reach a height of 1000 metres off the ground and a speed of 80 km/h, but hey it’s a start right? It’s a 1.2 metre dish shaped thing that apparently cost over $4 million to develop. Sheesh, give me the $4 mill and an old hubcap and I’ll build you something that will astonish even…

The Periodic Table of Videos – video brings dusty science to life in super charming style

The Periodic Table of Videos is so wonderful it’s not true. Ostensibly an initiative from the University of Nottingham in the UK, it has either deliberately or unwittingly delivered to us all a new superstar in the tradition of the greatest of Internet characters. Professor Martyn Poliakoff, CBE, sir you fit the picture of a Hollywood boffin in to an absolute T, but clearly you’re the real deal. Check out a few of the videos (for example the Iron one (Fe) or even the…

Codetch – a free full featured WYSIWYG web editor in your browser

Codetch is a cool Firefox plugin that provides a fully featured WYSIWYG web editor right there inside the browser. Tabbed windows, previews, Javascript debugger, it’s all there. It’s fast, open source and a rather cool bit of tech.  If you can run Firefox, Thunderbird, or Mozilla on your computer and have one of them installed, then yes, you too can use Codetch. The program currently installs as an extension for either of the before mentioned applications. So if you are using one of them,…

iJerry and iPiggy – convert your desk top into a music speaker

iJerry. Turn your table or desk into a music speaker. Just plug this gizmo into the headphone socket of your music player and it will transfer the audio to any hard flat surface as resonating music. Don’t expect JBL monitor speaker type quality sound though will you? Because you’ll be sorely disappointed. Still it’s fun. As far as we can tell, iPiggy is the same deal, but with a different shape and meme.  i-Jerry takes the technology of the super-energy crystal material. According to the object…

Authentic New York Hot Dog Cart – add some street cred with onions to your crib, yo

Authentic New York Hot Dog Cart. Anyone feeling an urge to stick one of these on their back patio really should examine their emotional attachment to fast food, greasy vegetables and artificial colourings sooner rather than later. Nonetheless, it’s a great way to remind the wife of the night you proposed over dinner. $5,499.95.  This is the authentic hot dog vendor’s cart, found on the streets and in the parks of New York City today, continuing the city’s robust street…

Tardis Garden Sheds – outwitting snails one space warp continium at a time

There are, apparently, a selection of human beings around the globe who have erected Dr Who Tardis garden sheds behind their homes. We, of course, are not surprised, although we would have to give the ultimate prize to Eric Edwards in Wales who has managed to cram what looks like the complete contents of a Radio Shack store into an old toilet, thereby fulfilling the Tardis dream of a pan-dimensional space even if it’s not the right colour and shape of…
