Widgenie – smart, gorgeous data visualisation tool comes online

Widgenie is one of those sparklingly beautiful single function web applications which make you want to scream with joy. OK, well perhaps that’s a little over the top, but these apps – like wufoo.com and gliffy.com – really do make business applications simple to use in a way that I’ve not seen since the early days of shareware. There’s nothing really rocket science about making charts and tables from spreadsheet or .cvs data, but this app does it all in such a…

Fuel Checker – make sure you’re putting the right stuff into your tank every time

Fuel Checker. Apparently 150,000 motorists put the wrong fuel into their tanks by mistake every year. That’s right, they pick up the diesel nozzle instead of the petrol one or vice versa and end up with a very sad engine and a rather large repair bill. This puppy aims to avoid all that pain by giving you instant visual clearance before you start refuelling. Just hold the nozzle up to the unit and it will flash green for OK and red for…

Busbi Digital Video Camera – point shoot and score…

Busbi Digital Video Camera. Q: When is a Flip Camcorder not a Flip Camcorder? A: When it’s a Busbi instead. A third of the price, complete with an SD memory card slot for infinite storage capacity, a 2 inch LCD screen and works off AA batteries. OK, so it’s USB 1.1 not 2.0 and produces QVGA at 320×240 rather than full VGA, but for £34.95?  If you want to watch all the videos captured, simply USB the Busbi into your computer….

Benkatine Turbine – generating power from your toilet flush

The Benkatine Turbine is a neat little gizmo that generates power from any pipe which feeds water. Think of it as a micro-hydroelectric power plant and you’re somewhere close, except you’re using small flows of water to create power rather than a mega-massive dam holding back billions of gallons of water. I suspect that this will be more useful for placement in things like rain water run-offs than in toilet pipework, but then again…? More here.  HydroElectric – in-pipe turbine known as…

Watercone gets funding – yay for the good guys…

We featured the very cool Watercone low cost water purifier and desalination device a while back, saddened by the lack of any investment to get this to commercial production. Well, the good news is the announcement of a partner – Tinox GmbH from Munich – who’ve agreed to start mass production and worldwide distribution later this year. Oh and it’s won some awards along the way too. Excellent!  The Watercone is a solar powered water desalinator that takes salt or brackish water…

YouRipper – freeware tool lets you download and save videos from your favourite video sites

YouRipper is a free software utility which lets you download and save videos from video sites like YouTube, DailyMotion, Google Video et al. It’s kind of unusual in that it embeds itself into the browser title bar as an expandable icon. When you want to download, just click on the icon and copy/paste the video URL into the address box which pops open. The footage is then downloaded as a Flash movie, so you’ll need a Flash player on hand to…
