2 sec Firefox video bug fix – sort out that annoying freeze frame, Farah

If you’ve ever suffered the 2 second YouTube video freeze in Firefox under Windows XP, then here’s a couple of cures to try. Number 1 usually works best for me. Wish they’d fix the problem though, ‘cause it’s a pain. Ctrl-Alt-Del – Task manager – Processes – highlight Firefox – Right mouse click – End Process Tree. Navigate to Windows – System32 – Macromed – Flash – click on npswf32 FlashUtil.exe. Another suggestion I’ve seen is to copy the file NPSWF32.dll from C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash…

Lonelec Universal Car Fault Code Reader – low cost way to check and reset your vehicle fault lights

The Memoscan U581 Universal Car Fault Code Reader is a small plug-in CAN-BUS OBD2/EOBDII reader which you use to read and reset your car’s computer fault codes. There’s a fair few of these around on the market currently, but this looks like the most comprehensive of the bunch at this sort of price, especially since it displays explanations of the codes as well as just the cryptic numbers. I’m guessing it will pay for itself the first time you use it instead…

Quicken Online for free – veteran personal finance gets the Web 2.0 treatment

Free Quicken Online is a new web version of the veteran personal finance package. Actually the new bit is the fact that it’s free, since the program has been online for a while. It comes with security encryption safeguards, connectivity with major US banks and is iPhone compatible too, which will please the black roll-neck brigade. Be aware, however, that the value of your bank can go down as well as up. This has been a public service announcement.  Protecting critical…

Peanut Butter Machine – for all nuts smooth and chunky

Everyone knows that things you make yourself taste better and that’s obviously the idea behind the Peanut Butter Machine. Fill ‘er up with any type of nuts in shells (peanuts, sunflower, cashews and even macadamias for goodness sake) and it grinds them down to a sticky, gooey mess fit to spread on bread or bake into cookies. Might also be good if you make a lot of tahini or eat a lot of hummus. My only question is, how on…

The Retriever – the little motorbike that could

If you have aspirations of running your own breakdown towing service, then check out The Retriever from Swedish company Coming Through. The Retriever is a heavily modified Honda Goldwing 1800cc motorcycle with a hideaway car-towing rig on the back. oNo Quiz Game – never mind the buzz box…

The iNo Quiz Game is the first iPod dock product which could actually be worth owning. The idea is you shove your iPod into the slot, give each player a game remote control and play a stop the music quiz. Put the player onto shuffle mode, pick up a card to define the question and let battle begin.   What’s the title of the song, which album did it come from, who cooked the band’s breakfast on the day it…

Purosol Screen Cleaner – plant extracts to keep your flat screen shiny

Purosol Screen Cleaner. Apparently this stuff is used by the Special Forces and NASA, so theoretically it should be just the thing for cleaning your flat screen monitor or television. The fact that it contains ‘natural plant enzymes’ is clearly irrelevant, we’re thinking it uses some heavyweight shock and awe juice to scare those smears into submission. $29.95.  Now the formula originally developed by Dr. L.H. Sampson has been perfected for home use on wide-screen TVs, monitors, and lenses. Unlike conventional cleaners,…

Terrorist Teapot and Cosy – edgy British table anarchy and a nice biscuit, vicar…?

Terrorist Teapot and Cosy. Um…somewhere deep in the bowels of the CIA/NSA machine, an Echelon operator is desperately trying to make sense of a blog post which combines the words teapot, cosy and terrorist in one sentence. And failing. OK, so we’ll make this easy, Jack. It’s designed to keep your Earl Grey warm while you foment improbable plans to unseat the local village council. See, now it makes sense, right? $44.55 in Danish stuff.  A tea cosy (American English…

Vista Start Menu – replace that awful Windows XP start menu and breathe free again

Vista Start Menu. If you dislike the kludgy, unwieldy thing that Microsoft calls the Start Menu as much as I do, you should download this small freeware program now. Suddenly you will no longer have to trudge, scroll click by aargh scroll click, through a huge list of programs to launch your app, because it will all be nicely arranged for you via a souped up interface. I’m not sure that it’s as good (fast?) as Launchy that we featured a…

Lala – digital music made easy

Lala is a new online music service which comes with some interestingly innovative features. It has a fast, easy to manage interface which lets you sample full tracks very quickly and more importantly add them to an online playlist locker for repeat listening. The service itself is subscription free, although you’ll pay for the music of course. The fascinating thing is the fact that they’re charging 10c per track, and if you want the downloaded MP3, you’ll pay an extra…
