Beat My Price – new price haggling service batters sellers into extinction

Beat My Price is a new price haggling service. Find the best price for something online, visit this site, enter the details and you’ll be notified if someone has found it cheaper. Is this the future of retailing? Are we all destined to sink into the stench filled pit of price cutting hell? Will service dissolve in the acid bath of recessionary pressures? Say it ain’t so, Marge. Tags: beat+my+price, price+comparison, online+application

Solar LED Lamp & Torch – combo unit spills light in different ways

This Solar LED Lamp & Torch combines a solar powered handheld flashlight with a standalone LED desk lamp. The idea is you carry the small unit around when you’re patrolling the cell blocks, and plug it in to power the desk lamp when you get back to your squalid, roach infested office with the single rickety chair and overflowing ashtray. Or something. $15.99.   12 LEDs Lamp # 6 LEDs Torch # Solar Powered # Saved energy and safe #…

Tread – gadget cases made from recycled road tyres

Tread make gadget bags from recycled car tyres. In Columbia. That makes them a force for good all right. I may spit in annoyance at their beautiful but hugely annoying Flash web site, but I applaud their vision. Cell phone, MP3 player and camera bags, as well as laptop cases. And surprisingly enough it looks quite stylish. Variously priced (the Sportster in the pic is $29.95). Tags: tread, gadget, bags+and+cases, recycled, tyres

Process Lasso – fire and forget computer system balancing

Process Lasso is a neat little freeware utility that improves your computer’s responsiveness during peak load situations. If you’ve ever sat there twiddling your thumbs while the machine grinds to a halt trying to cope with a single heavyweight task (like rendering), then you’ll recognise the problem. Oh, and it works. I’ve just tried it in Thunderbird, doing a search in a massive folder – which normally crunches everything to a halt – and my laptop has kept its cool. Nice one,…

Now – total data immersion Web 2.0 style

Heh, I really like the Now page. It’s stupidly engrossing. Or maybe it’s just that I feel stupid for wasting my time on this kind of trivia. Where else could you find out there are 1600 tons of eggs being produced or there’s two people currently stuck in elevators? Weird, fascinating and totally ridiculous. I’m hooked. 3G Clip Antenna – boost the signal on your 3G dongle or your static crackle back

This 3G Clip Antenna promises to improve the reception of your 3G cellular mobile broadband signal. You can either clip it to your laptop screen, or use the desk stand if you’re back in the office. I haven’t managed to test one of these things out yet, so I’ve got no idea whether they work as advertised. Or even if they work better than hanging the dongle out of the window on a long USB cable. So caveat emptor. £19.95….

The Geek Scooter – the ultimate pimped out geek-boy ride

This Geek Scooter gets this month’s award for the most tech you can cram onto two wheels. We’re looking at a rolling Skype calling, GPS toting, 1GHz pulling, wifi, Bluetooth, webcam, TV PVR enabled nonsense of a machine.
