Is it going to rain? – the totally minimalist weather forecast

Is it going to rain? is a fun and stripped bare online weather forecast service. Don’t ask for no fancy radar scans, 5 day reports or anything more than just the single word. That way you won’t be disappointed. Happy we.  A small project written for fun, goingtorain.com geo-locates your IP address and checks the weather to tell you, in one simple word, whether it’s going to rain (or snow) today. Cricket Laptop Stand – folds up neat and tidy

The Cricket laptop stand is a neat little travel accessory that can prop up your laptop to a better viewing position while improving the airflow underneath it. The front legs are telescopic and adjust to almost any width whilst the back leg can be tweaked to raise your screen. You can also use it for tablet PCs to improve the writing angle and it supports up to 5.5kg (12lbs) which should cater for most “portable” machines. When you’re done it…

Auditorium – gorgeous flash game that sounds just right

I just stumbled across this gorgeous Flash game called Auditorium. The idea is to direct the acoustic particles to the correct audio meter using various tools, but it’s very challenging and there many solutions. Five minutes and I was hooked! Give it a try. [Update – Oops, it’s only a demo at the moment with a full game to follow soon. The creators are also looking for beta testers if you’re keen.] Auditorium is about the process of discovery and…

1930 Portable Gramophone – a lovingly restored iPod of yesteryear

This 1930 Portable Gramophone is the real McCoy all right. Actually it’s an HMV Model 101, part of a small collection of such classic sound machines which have been restored for sale on the open market. It may well sound like cat claws being dragged across a school blackboard on a hot day, but it’s got oodles of style nevertheless. And look, is that a small space in which my vinyl recordings can nestle comfortably? Oh bliss! Prices start at around £350.00.  We…

Duo Wireless Digital Pen Mouse – turns your laptop into a touchscreen tablet

The Duo Wireless Digital Pen Mouse from Korea, is a clip-on wireless gizmo that transforms your boring old laptop screen into a touchscreen. Just clip the thing to the top of the LCD, pick up the pen part of the ensemble and start drawing, scribbling and writing directly on the screen. As with all these ‘clever’ technologies, don’t expect great resolution, because that’s very difficult to do, but if you’re looking for an alternative to the traditional mouse, this could be worth…

Windows Vista Problems of the Day – another day, another list of woes

Windows Vista Problems of the Day – The case of the lost peripherals. (previously) (clipart) Well well well, yesterday Vista decided to lose my mouse. I’m right in the middle of a straightforward image editing session, everything going well (got to say I like the new image editing features in the Vista image viewer) when all of a sudden, pop. Mouse gone. Totally. Logitech wireless model. Took the USB wireless dongle out, padded over to nearby second laptop, popped it in, mouse working…
