Deluxe TV Etch A Sketch – just like a normal etch a sketch but bigger!

Be the envy of all your friends with the Deluxe TV Etch a Sketch. It’s just like the ordinary, every day, mechanical Etch a Sketch except it’s better and more exciting cos it’s big and on telly! Plug the controller in and choose your challenge, there’s Cool Drawing Tools, Trace-a-Pic, Super Sketch and Connect the Dots. They have tried to stay true to the original and so shaking the controller makes the picture go away, just remember that when you’re…

Holographic Candlelit Dinner Kit – geek stupid your Valentine

This Holographic Candlelit Dinner Kit is pretty awesome, if by awesome you mean a completely insane waste of time, money and what pitiful credibility you have left after the last stupid stunt you pulled to try and catch a mate. But hey, there’s some people selling Valentine’s chocolates, for Pete’s sake, how lame is that? $5.99.  Included in this kit is a candle, for creating that point-source of light (photons a by-product of the combustion of parrafin), and two thin-film…

BlueTorrent 5 – ‘Minority Report’ advertising for your shop or service

BlueTorrent 5 brings Minority Report proximity advertising to the high street faster than you can say Tom Cruise rockzorz. OK, so it’s a Bluetooth broadcast program which lets you set up ‘campaigns’ which will beam a file to nearby Bluetooth enabled handsets as they come into range. The campaigns can contain any type of file from an image, to simple text or a vCard or vCalendar file. So set aside your rabid fear of spam for a moment – and it…

The Freesound Project – neat database of Creative Commons sounds

The Freesound Project is a cool initiative by the Music Technology Group to create a huge library of free to use sounds and effects which have been created by the community. The idea is to produce a powerful go-to resource for anyone who needs to use a particular type of sound in their project. The sounds can be tagged, and there’s a useful voting system as well, so the better sounds are pushed up the rankings. A great idea and…

YourFonts – make your own handwriting font for free

Yourfonts dot com is a new free online font generator which lets you create your very own font in your very own handwriting. To use, just print off the template, fill it out, scan and upload it to the site and wait for the processing. At the moment their servers are maxed out because of net interest, so be prepared to wait a long time (even though the front page says 15 minutes!). Cool idea though.  YourFonts.com is a FREE…

The Muppet Whatnot Workshop – Design your own Muppet

The “extras” you see wandering around in the background on The Muppet Show are called Whatnots, and over at FAO Schwarz you can design your very own. Start in the Whatnot Workshop and choose the colour and design of the body, add some eyes, hair and a nose and top it all off with an outfit. After you’ve submitted and paid for it, your very own Whatnot will be delivered in 3-4 weeks. Each Whatnot is a 16″ tall hand…

Nikon D3 cut in half – readers of a delicate nature look away now

A blogger in Tokyo snapped these photos of a Nikon D3 cut in half at the Tokyo Eco Products convention in December last year. I can’t help thinking that to pull the thing apart, cut everything in half, polish all the bits and then reassemble it must have taken hours. And check out the lump of glass in the viewfinder. More pictures via the link. Very cool. [Thanks Celinda!] I visited the Tokyo Eco Products convention the other day (2008/12/12)…

Screen Time Manager – turn off the TV automatically and spoil everyone’s fun

This Screen Time Manager is designed to bring out the dominator in all of us. Especially parents and extended family. Because if there’s one way to make friends with a youngster it’s to set up a restrictive system that controls access to fun time, and not talk it through first. Then give each sibling a PIN number so they can play at barter and blackmail all month long. Excellent sport. $89.95.  Easy-to-use device turns off the TV, gaming system or…

Zodi Camp Shower – hot water in an instant, anywhere…

This Zodi Camp Shower has nothing to do with Liberace and everything to do with home comforts. In the woods. Or garden. The small propane canisters will heat up 60 gallons of water and the bucket will hold four gallons which is apparently enough for a luxurious 10 minute shower. Unless you’re Paris Hilton of course, in which case you’ll probably demand a refill or two. $89.97.  On-demand hot-water bathing anywhere, anytime! Self-contained, factory-refurbished units let you enjoy the convenience of an instant…

SoliCharger – the solar powered iPhone charger

The SoliCharger is a solar powered charger for the iPhone which is supposed to provide up to 50% of a full handset charge when plugged in. You’ll need to stand the thing in bright sunshine for at least four hours first of course (or plug it into the mains) but what’s four hours between friends, eh? We believe everything and doubt nothing. Which is what makes us so popular, we guess. $39.95.  Simply plug in the SOLiCharger to an iPhone…

Splashup Light – cool Adobe Air based image editor

Splashup Light is a new photo editing program which comes in Adobe Air format. Which means it features a quirky interface, looks gorgeous and actually works quite well. Nothing ground breaking here, there’s a few editing effects, and simple tweaks you can do, but hey, it’s free and fun. Stop complaining.  Splashup Light also has powerful tools for advanced image editing enthusiasts like Levels, Hue – Saturation and Brightness – Contrast. Together with standards tools like rotate, crop, resize and…

Stovokor – the gnarliest Klingon metal band this side of Betelgeuse?

Stovokor is. The first. And only. Klingon Metal Band. On Earth. We have nothing more to say on the subject. [insert lame Kirk joke here]  “…It is said that nothing is darker than the infinite vastness of space…From across this silent void comes STOVOKOR. Five valiant, metal warriors marooned on an insignificant and undeserving planetoid…Armed with a metal forged in the lava of Kri’stak and tempered by the blood of a proud, warrior race. With this metal they shall raise…

aMap – the argument site

aMap is a great example of one of those huh? sites. Yes it is. Look don’t argue. All right argue, but do it with civility using one of these online…ahem…argument maps. The idea is for us all to log on and conduct arguments logically and concisely using a structured template. State your case, build your argument, let the debate begin. Not to rain on anyone’s parade or anything, but most arguments may start out all loving, decent and terribly polite, my…

An Open Letter to the Western Banking System – aka get stuffed!

This Open Letter to the Western Banking System is hilarious, brilliantly observed and deserves to be spread far and wide. My favourite bit is deliciously priceless – ‘Perhaps you, like I, find it richly ironic that members of the public still use your investment subsidiaries as a means to protect and grow their private wealth. I think you should promote the activities of these subsidiaries more widely. My idea for an advertising slogan: “When it comes to moral hazard, we’re…
