I just found this list of 34 free first person shooter games on Metafilter, and it is good. This type of game is not for everyone, but if you fancy a little over the top, graphically rich, adrenaline pumping action then you could have fun with some of these. For those with a more sensitive disposition, may I recommend the altogether more sedate World of Padman from this list? Enjoy! Tags: freeware, 34+first+person+shooter+games, computer+games

Read MorePrimare SPA22 Amplifier – the world’s first upgradable hi-fi component?
This Primare SPA22 Amplifier is the first one we’ve seen that offers PC type upgrade functionality. The object is to let you upgrade the components as more, different, better, sweeter technologies come on to the market. The Swedish designers have come up with a clever plugin board option, which means you should be able to keep the amp much longer before consigning it to that great big scrap heap in the sky. Such flexibility costs, of course (but you knew that…
Read MoreSoil Lamp – runs on mud, looks like art
The Soil Lamp runs on mud. Or rather it runs on copper and zinc in the mud. Just add water. Nice tech, lovely styling. Great idea. Free and environmentally friendly energy forever and ever. The lamp runs on mud. The metabolism of biological life produces enough electricity to keep a LED lamp burning. The mud is enclosed in various cells. These cells contain copper and zinc that conduct the electricity. The more cells there are, the more electricity they generate….

Makes perfect sense to us. The game, called eRepublik, is set in a mirror world where players, referred to as citizens, join in local and national politics, set economic…

Read MoreMobile Visor – block nosy people from viewing your BlackBerry screen
The Mobile Visor clips on to your BlackBerry screen to stop nosy people from reading your oh so important private stuff. We’re kind of thinking that if they’re that keen to see what you’re doing, they’ll need a) a telescopic neck and b) a finely tuned set of eyeballs which can penetrate tiny oblique LCD screens at a distance. We’re not saying it can’t be done, mind you, just that it’s kind of unlikely without you noticing. Anyway, here’s a…

We got sent a sparkly new Asus EeePC 1000HE mini notebook computer to play with the other day and we’re very impressed in many ways and extremely disappointed in one. First the good news – this is the first laptop computer we’ve tried which actually delivers on the promise of a decent battery life without resorting to huge clunky add-on packs. When they say all day computing in the blurb, they mean it.
Read MoreYouTube comments – apparently they mean something
If this Canadian movie poster (click to enlarge) spotted by The Daily Dairy can be believed then You Tube comments are now being used in movie promotions. What’s next, blog comments for product endorsements? We all know about YouTube comments, we’ve all seen the xkcd comic and what happened next. If this is true then that’s it for me, I mean why bother any more? Game over, good night, thanks again, toodaloo and don’t forget the lights on the way…
Read MoreBicycle Built for 2000 – People imitating computers imitating art
Bicycle Built for 2000 is a recording that was created using 2088 different people’s voices assembled into a single song. Each person was asked to sing a small snippet of a song that they had just heard and submit it via Amazon’s Mechanical Turk. The song snippet they were asked to replicated was actually a recording of a machine singing “Daisy Bell”, made in 1962 as the first example of musical speech synthesis. The final outcome is a cacophony of…
