PrivNote – send notes that self destruct after being read

Privnote is a new service that lets you send notes which automatically self-destruct after being read by the recipient. You create the note, send over the link to the stored message and immediately the person clicks on the link the words will be displayed in their browser while at the same time being vaped from the server. Clever. There’s no sign up or complicated registration. Just write and go. Psst….Suzy Smith has a crush on you!  Privnote is a free web based…

Sun Sniper Camera Strap – nifty backwards camera bit

Sun Sniper is a different kind of camera strap. Firstly it attaches to the tripod socket at the bottom of the camera so it fits all cameras as well as the larger zoom lenses. Secondly the camera is stowed behind you so just keeping your hands in the normal position while walking means your camera and lens are safe. The strap has a built-in shock absorber and because it’s hanging upside down behind you it’s the right way around when…

Electromagnetic Leak – Aliens Watching our TV

Ever wondered what’s on telly on Pollux or Tau Ceti? Well wonder no longer with this useful Electromagnetic Leak chart from Abstruse Goose. Graphed in 5 year intervals the chart shows how far Earth’s TV signals have propagated into the Milky Way. On Alpha Centauri the small furry green things are just getting over that wardrobe malfunction while out in Vega they’re counting down to Punky Brewster. Wolf 359 is over the Borg Invasion and are now getting into The…

Coleman Hot Water on Demand – portable hot water maker

I stopped by the local SuperMegaUltraCamping World on the weekend and spotted this guy, the Coleman Hot Water on Demand machine. Designed to provide instant hot water for camping trips it’s quite a nifty gadget. It uses a 16 oz propane gas cylinder to heat the water and has a built-in 6V rechargeable lead-acid battery which powers the water pump. On the warm setting it will increase the water temperature by 50F, the hot setting will increase it by 100F…

CradleVue – put that laptop to good use for the kids next time you go for the long haul

It was only a matter of time before someone came up with this idea. How to hang a conventional laptop computer from the seats of a car as a multimedia entertainment centre for passengers – read rugrats – in the rear. So here it is, the CradleVue, a sophisticated and possibly only slightly complicated combination of harness and strapping, which dangles your precious laptop with screen facing the rear and keyboard ready for stop rewind action. It’s certainly ‘ingenious’ as…

Tokyoflash Competition Winner

I am happy to report that all the entrants in our latest competition are fully qualified to drive a Tokyoflash watch. You should all be very proud. The time on the Keisan watch, with a little arithmetic was of course 12:45. So that just leaves our winner, and our randomly chosen entry belongs to Jon Hodgins. Congrats Jon, I’ll pass your details onto Tokyoflash and they’ll be in touch. Thanks to everyone who entered the competition and to Tokyoflash of…

Matmos Fireflow R1 – the first ever tea-light powered lava lamp

The Matmos Fireflow R1 sounds more like a racing car than a piece of household furniture, but nonetheless it’s notable for being the first of its kind to run solely off a tea light. Yep, no more planet destroying electrical power to heat that oil. This puppy uses those small candles to do the job, which will no doubt soothe the souls of all 60’s bread heads now craving for a more ecologically groovy yeah icon. Inspired by the 40th anniversary of…

Relaxing Ocean Projector Pot – relax in a sea of blue

It’s waterproof, requires batteries and the manual is in Japanese. It’s only US$60 though. The Relaxing Ocean Projector Pot innovative light fixture projects a watery ocean…

TVClean – the high tech way to keep your precious LCD screen clean

This TVClean device promises to keep your flat screen television or monitor sparkling clean without using potentially harmful chemicals or scratch inducing rags. The thing apparently uses a NASA designed (wow those guys get around eh?) rubber pick up roller which collects all the dust and particles on the screen down to 1 micron in size. Small. An internal adhesive roll then moves the dust off the roller before it can be returned to the screen. Result, sparkly surface. Then you…

Vanishd – hide your work time surfing from your boss and colleagues

Vanishd is a very clever, possibly too clever, free browser based application which lets you hide your work time surfing habits from your boss and colleagues using a sophisticated screen of conventional office type documents. Once registered you simply fire up the service, select which document you want to hide behind – spreadsheet, word-processing and the like – and then use the window to view your preferred subject matter. The current version won’t let you watch YouTube or other Flash…

Printee for IE – super new freeware lets you print out web pages the way you want

Printee for Internet Explorer is a very cool new freeware program that gives you complete control over printing the contents of any web page. That’s right, no longer do you have to fight to grab and print just the text or hunt around for the rare Print this Page button. The program drops an editing/selection toolbar into the browser with which you can choose sections of the page you wish to print. You can remove adverts and unnecessary navigation elements, and…

How to download a web browser for the European Windows 7 system

You’ve just bought the European version of the new Windows 7 operating system, and it has no web browser on it. What to do? How do you install a web browser with no obvious or simple way of going online? Sure you can laboriously find a USB key, load up a browser from somewhere else and import it? But isn’t there an easier way? Yep. Just click on the Start button, then in the Start Search bar at the bottom…

Mimo Mini USB Monitor – cute little add-on screen just for fun

What a sweet little monitor, did you grow it yourself? The Mimo Mini USB Monitor plugs, surprisingly enough, into your computer’s USB port and therefrom delivers a 7 inch portrait or landscape image of whatever you wish to display separate from your main screen. Perfect for wasting your life tracking Twitter messages or watching mindlessly vapid YouTube videos of unhappy teenagers railing about their paltry pocket money. $129.99.  The Mimo Mini USB Monitor changes this equation completely by offering a…
