Handerpants – not as dumb as they look

A long time ago, in a different life, I used to make stuff in a cleanroom. Part of the uniform was powder-free latex gloves, and after wearing them for a full shift your hands tended to feel like they’d been soaking in vinegar for 3 months. Horrible. Then we got glove liners, similar to these Handerpants. Basically fingerless gloves that separated most of your hand from the pervasive yuck of the glove, it made life so much more comfortable. Unfortunately…

Sony Dream Machine Spy Camera – the undisputed star of the ugly bug ball

Ladies and gentlemen, we present the unimpeachably ugly Sony Dream Machine Spy Camera, a product so hideous its manufacturer had to get an injunction to stop it being sold through normal stores. Instead they forced the product into air travel catalogues, at which point they washed their hands of the whole affair. Or so we believe. It was originally designed to record video footage through a hidden camera lens, but we understand it now serves as an implement of torture…

Star Wars Brain Trainer – use the fork, Luke, the fork…

The Star Wars Brain Trainer is a clever bio-feedback device masquerading as a Jedi warrior artifact. All you’ve gotta do is think beta wave thoughts and just like a Jedi you will move the ball up and down the tube. If only it could help me avoid these piercing headaches too. Anyhoo, for all you Bwok Boogers out there, it’s $214.65. ”You need to get your credit card out…I need to get my credit card out…You will pay happily…I will…

Quirky – the product development community with smarts

Quirky is a clever new community portal based around the idea of product development. Submit an idea, other members of the community vote on it and the winner product gets made in a factory and everything. The site promises to deliver a new product every few days, which is a pretty ambitious goal. The catch? You’ve got to hand over $99.00 to get your product idea on the board. Everything else is free.   I particularly like the fact that…

Dump IE6 – the movement to kill a lousy web browser gathers steam

The Hey-IT campaign is trying to educate the slow and stupid corporate IT world that it’s time the eight year old Internet Explorer 6.0 web browser fell off the approved list and died. Why? Because it’s a lousy, non compatible web browser that breaks most standard pages and makes the life of a web designer an absolute misery. That’s why. So do your bit, download a bunch of their posters and stick them up all over the IT director’s door. Or his…

Rumors of a BMW Electric Scooter

Unnamed sources at BMW report that a new electric scooter could debut at an upcoming motorcycle show sometime in late 2010 and put in production in 2011, according to Spain’s Solo Scooter website. If the rumor mill is right, this new scooter would sport a lithium ion battery pack, have a range of about 155 miles or three hours of continuous use and a top speed of 75 miles per hour. No word on the exact body style of the…

Terk Amplified Indoor TV Antenna – the flat grey uber aerial

This Terk Amplified Television Antenna is apparently one of the most effective of its type on the market. We’ll take that with a pinch of salt until we get to see Barry Manilow live in Supermarionationized colour, but for now let’s just go with the flow and repeat the sales blurb. Multi-directional, low noise filtering, high gain amplifier. Sound reassuring? Good. $89.95.  Tested by the Institute in urban, suburban, and rural environments, it scored highest in tests for providing superior,…

Zamzom – who’s using my wireless network?

Zamzom is a new freeware program that will tell you who or what is logged on to your WiFi network at any one time. It also gives some useful info on IP and MAC addresses too, which is neats for geeks. The free version will only show you IP and MAC addresses of the stowaways, you’ll need to pay real money to get their names, but at least you get to see who’s piggybacking without your permission. Worth a look, and…

iPod Nano Linux – open source community freeing up your iPod

The iPod Nano Linux project is dedicated to porting Linux onto…yep…an iPod Nano. Why? Well because they can. Silly. In order to do it, they’re having to reverse engineer the thing to hack the protection surrounding the hardware, but it’s all in a days fun and games right? Open source goes crab fishing…!  This is an open source venture into porting Linux onto the iPod Nano and all other iPod devices. So far, a customized uClinux kernel has been successfully…
