Uni-Ball Kuru Toga and the Sakura Electric Eraser – Self Turning Pencils and Mechanical Erasers

No it’s not the name of a new steampunk novel, these are actual products. Uni-ball make a self turning mechanical (clutch) pencil called the Kuru Toga. The mechanism keeps the lead rotating so you don’t end up with a stupid chisel point that shatters when you pick it up and use it incorrectly. US$6.75 The Kuru Toga, on the other hand, has a core rotation mechanism that continually rotates the pencil lead as you write. The lead is twisted through…

Chobi Mini-Digital Camera – tiny, high res cutie-cam – UPDATED

This Chobi Mini Digital Camera is so cute we want to take it home, feed itdelicate morselsand swaddle it in lambswool. Or something. What we really need, though, are some image samples. Around $148.00 ish. Updated: Brando has just released this Mini Thumb Size Spy Camera and Camcorder, and it looks almost identical. At 2048 x 1536 the stills resolution isn’t quite the 5 megapixels it says on the box, in fact it’s only 3 megapixel, but at US$51 who’s…

Halo Headphones – Headphones for sweaty people

These Halo Headphones look like they may solve a whole world of problems for people who exercise and enjoy a bit of music. They’re a sweat band with removable high-fidelity earphones. The sweat band keeps them in place during hard workouts and the cable exits the band at the rear so it’s so it’s not all up in your face. The sweat band can be removed and washed of course and you can buy different styles. The makers reckon you…

REVEAL – Project a window onto your wall

Brooklyn artist Adam Frank has created a system called REVEAL that simulates the sunlight and shadows of a window frame and swaying branches on your inside home, apartment or office walls. It’s a simple spotlight with two slots in front of it – one in front of the other. Insert a thin metal sheet (gobo if you want to get technical) that’s cut to resemble the silhouette of tree branches into the back slot. Then slip another slide cut to…

Anti Surveillance Camera Detector – stopping them watching you

This Anti Surveillance Camera Detector locates spy cameras by dressing up in a white tuxedo, visiting a local casino and seducing the beautiful Eastern European daughter of the local police chief. Mmm…maybe our Google translate is a little off today. £27.44.  A highly effective, practical device to detect spies or sleazy co-workers. By activating this compact box, simply peer through the viewing window in order to see a reflection from the iris of any spy cameras enabling easy identification. With…

Segway i2 Clone – is nothing sacred, even white elephants?

We’re trying to figure out this Global Sources entry. Is it a real Chinese Segway i2 clone, or is it a legitimate Chinese sub-contractor making Segways for their domestic market. Either way it’s weird. Talk about lame duck enterprises. [Ahhh…Dan sends me a possible explanation – http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2008/07/chinese-police/] Tags: segway+i2, chinese+clone, shanzhai

Gear Shift FM Radio – Fully synchronised stations make downshifting easy

If you feel that you still need a dedicated FM radio, but one that speaks of your individuality and love of life then Brando can help. This Gear Shift FM Radio oozes style and sophistication as well as providing tactile feedback as you switch it on, change stations and adjust the volume. Runs on a pair of AAA batteries, or a 3V wall wart (not included). Oh and whatever you do, make sure you get this, and not this, or…

Disk Space Fan – freeware helps you free up space on your hard disk

Diskspace Fan is a new free Windows utility for exploring space usage on your hard drive. Instead of boring lists, you get a nice colorful graphic which you can dig into to find out what files and folders are hogging space on the disk. It’s not as intuitive as something like TreeSize, but it does offer a nice alternative. Check it out.  Disk Space Fan is a freeware and it is a nice disk space analysis tool for Windows. It…

WallWisher – cool free online noticeboard

Ooh I like this WallWisher online noticeboard thing. It’s like a cross between Netvibes, Post-It Notes and a cork wallboard. It’s instant to set up, and adding a new video, image or note is as easy as double click and edit. Messages are limited to 160 characters or less, and you can make your wall private or public. Oh and there’s a choice of backgrounds. Why? Well family chats (private or public), To-Do lists, personal notes etc etc. There’s an RSS…

i-gotU GT600 GPS Travel and Sports Logger – Hands on review with an awesome GPS gadget

I’ve been sent one of these iGotU GT600 GPS Travel and Sports Logger gadgets to take a look at. It’s a GPS unit that records your position while you explore the world or jog the track. When you get home, download the GPS data and you can use it to map your route or to geotag your photos if you sync your camera clock with it. While there are a million phones and apps out there that can do both…

Desktop Cooler and Warmer – It’s about time

What good is a gadget if it can only be used for half of the year? Sure some people drink hot drinks in summer (myself included) but that’s not the point, the point is we need a USB cup gadget that both heats and cools. Thankfully we have Hammacher and their Desktop Cup Warmer and Cooler. Heats up to 56C (133F), cools down to 13C (55F) and all via the magic of USB. US$29.95 This is the desktop device that…

Hell – Another xkcd comic pops into reality

Good ol’ xkcd has done it again. First it was the YouTube virus and now it’s a new version of Tetris, dubbed Hell, and it’s completely playable. Well, you can play it, I don’t know if it’s playable. Anyway, considering the comic only came out on the 7th of April, this is a pretty good effort. Now all we have to wait for is the new Katamari game and the tweaked Mario brothers.
