Tackk – the easiest web noticeboard in the known universe?

The web is changing all right, and one way you can tell is by looking at the new tools coming down the pipe. Instead of heavy clunky web design programs and services, we’re seeing a definite rise in the number of quick and easy tools to create online content. At one end you’ve got the elegant and iconic Pinterest, and at the other you have tools like Tumblr. But that still leaves a gap to fill.

Comic Strip Generator turns everyone into a witty political pundit

Well if we can’t do anything about all this insane stuff, at least we can laugh, right? Pick a subject, any subject –  catholic priests at work and play, lying bankers, stupid bankers, lying and stupid politicians, sinister politicians, pointless reality stars, blah blah blah. The list is endless.

Declaration of Internet Freedom – please sign if you wish to keep the Internet safe

A new move has started to draft a global Declaration of Internet Freedom which aims to protect the Internet from attack by governments, commercial and industrial interests and anyone else who would try to twist and pervert it to their ends. It may sound very fluffy bunny but at its core the message is seriously important. The Internet is turning out to be one of the most significant developments in human civilisation since Gutenberg’s printing press, and we are at a…

Movies.io is a brilliant example of how future movie consumption should be tailored

Every now and then there’ll be a report in the press about yet another RIAA/MPAA initiative to crack down on piracy, and the PRs will trot out the same old tired stats and make the same old weary comments about how their industry is being ruined by piracy. But the fact is most people don’t pirate and have no wish to, all they want is their digital entertainment delivered in the fastest most efficient way. And they’ll pay for it too. But…

WunderMap is an interactive weather map on steroids

What is it about the weather that’s so fascinating? Sure it’s nice to know whether it’s going to rain, but apart from that who needs to know the wind direction at 2.30pm? We reckon it comes from our primordial past when man worked with the elements to survive harvest panics and stuff like that. We also suspect that weather forecasting hasn’t really improved that much since the days when a Shaman threw some bones in the fire, but tell you…

Family Leaf gives you a private family room on the Web

The massive scale of social networks like Facebook and Google+ is really astonishing in many ways. The idea that half a billion people can sign up to a single service and exchange phone numbers is, frankly, astonishing. But it can also be quite unnerving to some folk, and even intimidating to those who prefer a slightly more quiet life.

Fixoodle language translation community uses the wisdom of die horde

We’ve long had the feeling that social networks, cool as they are in many ways, could be so much better. For instance, instead of a community just logging in to gossip and chat about trivia, why couldn’t they spend time doing something genuinely useful for each other? Something which would confer a real benefit rather than just take up time?

Social Folders is a spamtastic way to sync content across social networks

There’s a large and growing number of online services and social networks clamouring for your attention and content. The mighty Facebook rules of course, as does Flickr for photos and Twitter for…um…tweets, but beyond these there are others coming up in the wings. Sites like Instagram for mobile photo sharing, Evernote, Picasa, Veoh, and more. One of the problems this presents is how to manage them all, and ensure that you keep control of where your content is going and…

Bliss Control is a superb way to manage your social network settings

How many social networks do you belong to? At least one I bet. Well that’s all well and good, but what happens if you’ve signed up to a bunch of them, and you’re trying desperately to manage them, i.e. do things like change password, or email settings or your profile photos. It can be a nightmare to find all the relevant parts of each admin panel to get things done.
