A Wind Turbine designed for the 21st century

When you think of a wind turbine, the massively tall device with huge long rotating blades comes to mind. But the Netherlands-based tech firm The Archimedes has created an unusual styled turbine based around the idea of the nautilus shell. The Liam F1 Urban Wind Turbine is said to have an energy yield that is “80 percent of the maximum that is theoretically feasible.” Conventional turbines produce an average of 20 to 25 percent energy yield, so this claim, if…

Light Up Headphones – stay safe and be seen at night

Apparently these are the world’s first Light Up Headphones, which pulse and glow with light according to the music that’s playing. The makers are clearly pitching them as safety aids while running at night, but we’re just going to say that anyone who runs late at night will probably need more than just a glowing headset to avoid issues with lamposts and such.

Wiser – the perfect alternative to complex smartphone screens [Freeware]

OK, time for a confession. I’ve got 179 apps on my Android smartphone at the moment, which will do everything from send a postcard to measure the height of that tree over there. Ask me how many I use day to day? Probably three. Max five. Camera, dialer (duh), text, music and maps. And we’re guessing there’s a bunch of people like me who only use a fraction of the capabilities of their phone at any one time.
