350 Million Trees Planted – in Ethiopia in just one day

Ethiopia planted 350 million trees in about 12 hours across the entire country and that’s a whole lot of trees. It beats the former title holder, India, who only planted 50 million trees which is ALSO a lot of trees. So really, they’re both winners in our hearts.

As the climate crisis increases, one of the really tangible ways to combat it is to plant more trees. Many countries have stepped up to do just this but it’s also really important that the trees be of native species that won’t cause other problems for the remaining foliage.

In Ethiopia, the amount of forest coverage dropped from 35% way back in the 1900s to a current number around 4%. That’s a major loss and the recent mass planting will hopefully help to bring that number way up.
