7 Inch Android Headrest – the car accessory that thinks it’s a tablet computer

androidheadrest

What’s the definition of technology overkill? How about a car accessory originally designed to protect your neck from whiplash and make driving more comfortable, which has suddenly got a hard core tech makeover worthy of the Space Shuttle?

This 7 Inch Android Headrest features a ridonkulous level of tech for a car part. Like a Cortex A9 1.5GHz processor, capacitive touchscreen, built in WiFi, support for a 3G USB SIM card dongle, 1080p video playback and an FM transmitter. Yeah you’ve got to admit, it’s the fanciest headrest you’re ever going to lean your greasy noggin on.

We’re starting to wonder whether loading your vehicle with all this high tech gear (remember the Bluetooth rear view camera mirror?) will eventually cause a bit of a problem with your battery. It’s bad enough loading the car down with a 200W stereo system, but all these computers can’t be good for your average lead acid battery, surely?

Anyway we don’t have a final price on these puppies yet, but at the rate things are going you’ll probably see them as standard issue on Kia motors Real Soon Now. Good news for passengers eh?
