eBuzzing – new pay to blog service. like. recommend. earn? Hmm…

eBuzzing. Hmm…well it’s a new version of an old concept. Advertisers pay bloggers to recommend products. PayPerPost redux? Just for the record I think this stuff is not a valuable addition to the blogging community. Yes bloggers take advertising, yes we respond to valuable PR, yes we can be commercial/pro operations and don’t necessarily have to be totally amateur status to retain credibility (although I do think that those blogs which have avoided any adverts or commercial sponsorship like Bifurcated Rivets, Presurfer, RobotWisdom2 and…

Hands on with the Qtrax music service – or rather hands off…

Well, this probably has to rank as one of the most disastrous tech launches of recent times, possibly even rivalling the infamous boo.com fiasco of Boom 1.0. Qtrax, the much hyped ‘free and legal music download’ service, finally sent out beta download invitations yesterday, and we were as keen as mustard to get a look at this important new tech in action. So naturally we rushed off and patiently downloaded the beta software and installed the rejigged Songbird music client….

Qtrax – how not to launch a world beating revolution in the music industry

Qtrax. Rule 101 on how not to launch your world changing revolutionary legal Peer2Peer music service to the world. [UPDATE: Even more weird stuff seems to be happening…] Don’t promise what you can’t deliver on day one. Don’t think you’ve got it all sorted out just because you’ve been in gestation for four and a half years with beta traffic. Spend money on scalability testing. Try not to tell the Web that you’re going to change the world if you’re not…

DNA Ascension – restore your spiritual heritage…honest

DNA Ascension. Priced from $25.00 for 12 strands. Best of luck with it too. Oh, and there’s this bridge….  Originally, our 36 DNA strands were active and functioning. Approximately 5000 years ago, they were “deactivated,” greatly reducing many of our natural capabilities. Activating our 36 strands of DNA returns us to our original, natural state. It is a vital and necessary step in our spiritual growth and evolution. Tags: dna+ascension, mumbo+jumbo

BBC to reduce High Definition picture quality? – What price your HD television now, Sam?

BBC considers reducing DTT picture quality. So let me get this straight. The television manufacturers are pushing gung-ho with more expensive, higher resolution flat screen digital TVs. The government is cajoling us all to switch to digital with the promise of fabulous image quality and programming. But in the meantime the major broadcasters are trying to dupe the poor sap consumer by pushing out reduced resolution digital broadcasts to save money and squeeze more junk channels into the same amount of bandwidth? Yeah right, that’s…

Boo.com is back – as a Web Too company? Oh how we laugh….

Boo.com is back!! Yes it’s back, honestly, and we nearly fell of our chair laughing to see the new incarnation all shiny bright as a full on, Web 2.0, glitzy social networking, travel service. Priceless stuff, this. You couldn’t pay for a better show. Wow! Next week, The Spot returns as a Wiki. Hahahaha!  In launching boo.com we’ve tried to create an experience taking what was once a tedious process involving multiple sites and deliver it under a single offering….

Yuwie – owie

Yuwie is a new social networking site that pays you for page views. Actually from the blurb it looks to be a cross between an MLM scheme and a circa 1999 flavour PHP script spamtastic hash up. But it’s gaining 32,000 members a month, so what do we know?  The best way to get more page views is to add more content to your profile. Leave comments for friends, upload more pictures, and maintain an active blog. All of this activity…

20 Ridiculous Audiophile Products – hear that sound? It’s your credit card screaming in quadrophonic agony

20 Ridiculous Audiophile Products. David Stark has compiled a list of audiophile products which claim to improve your Hi-Fidelity listening experience beyond the bounds of normal credibility. The sad thing is he’s received hate mail because of it. Tsk. I think my favourite is the Silver Rock Volume Control which costs $6,820.00. Wow! Just wow! [Via the Museum of Hoaxes] My offering is the Ultra Purifier Block, an 8–way power socket block which at £550.00 redefines the whole meaning of ‘clean electricity’….

The 330 mpg Aptera.

The 330 mpg Aptera Concept Vehicle. Yeah right. Hot on the heels of a supposed expose of the reason why GM really shelved its EV-1 electric car, what we need is yet another pie in the sky, three wheeler, futuristic, space age, hog wash concept car that will do a zillion miles on a gallon of gas. Am I sounding a tad cynical here? What we really need is a major manufacturer to stop pussy-footing around and produce a family car in…

Pseudoscience fights back.

Hmm…so industry commentator Josh Umbehr over at the Medgadget weblog seems to have been the subject of a bit of PR harrasment for daring to suggest that a product we both featured – the Emwave – may not be quite as…ahem…robust as claimed. Dear me, it’s a bit much when PR folk start hassling folk at home to get their point across. Naughty, naughty Miss PR.  In retrospect, we think it was the “pseudoscience” label that really ruffled emWave’s feathers. When…
