Rent a robot.

Rent a Robot. Maybe one day we’ll all rent robots to guard our property – and ourselves? – but they’ll probably have to look a bit, well funkier, than this SECOM Robot X, eh? And cheaper than $2500 a month too. Unless they sweep the yard, clean the bathroom, walk the dog and mind the kids while we’re out bowling like properly irresponsible parents.  The robot’s key features are as follows: (1) It can travel at 10 km/h, a speed…

Gooey mail?

Goowy (re – for rich experience) gets the Ferret award for this month’s most inventive…ahem…name. Apparently it’s an online email (100MB), calendaring and contact manager service. For free. Mmm…not sure that the world needs yet another one of these shared life things. Or if it does, it really should be as uber cool as Ning, methinks. And yes, I hate myself for loving the Ning concept, because it’s going to become just so darned trendy! Shame on you Marc Andreessen….

Peerflix.

Peerflix. Netflix via your peers and not the net. No, hold on. Netflix with the Net, but also the…. No, wait. List the DVDs you own and the ones you want. Others do the same. Then you swap when you want. Or something. And the Peerflix people charge you $0.99c a trade. So there. Happy?   We are a peer-to-peer trading network for DVDs. It’s the new way to get the most out of the DVDs you own by trading those…

The Tilting Vehicle.

The Tilting Vehicle. Inventor Phillip James believes he has come up with a supremely safe, ecological and easy to control commuter vehicle. Don’t know about all that, but it does look like fun. More photos here.

Google blog search.

..the interesting thing about the new Google Blog Search service is that you can subscribe to feeds of search results, which means that you can effectively track blog conversations on a particular subject very easily. I don’t know exactly why just yet, but this definitely strikes me as A Very Useful Thing.

MouseHole.

MouseHole. Er..it’s a local web proxy which lets you install and use Ruby scripts? Kind of like Greasemonkey, without the grease? Or monkey? Um…not sure what it really offers that’s new, but suspect that it’s interesting tech. If you find out what it’s useful for please inform this puzzled Ferret immediately.  Okay, MouseHole 1.1 is ready for you. If you’re new, MouseHole is a web proxy that you run on your machine… And that’s it. I really have no idea…

Future tech.

The British Telecom Timeline. There’s nothing so foolish or futile as forecasting the future [fabulous falliteration – Ed], but someone needs to tell BT. This little technological timeline stretches to infinity and beyond (well OK 2055) and makes some bold predictions. Artificial brains by 2044, genetically engineered teddy bears by  2041? Tell you what, let’s meet back here in 50 to see if it turns out to be correct? You can log on via holographic thought waves. Oh yes. Downloadable version…

Biggest printer in the world.

This Mitsubishi DiamondStar 90 printing press is apparently the biggest printing system in the world ,and can print out 90,000 complete full colour broadsheet newspapers an hour. The Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper of Japan has four of them linked together that can produce 100 newspapers a second. One question. How many trees, dude, how many trees?

Electric airgun.

The Airsoft Styler 606 Electric Airgun. The Ferret sleeps well in his bed at night, knowing that simple happy-loving products like these are available for all and sundry. After all, it’s just good clean fun, isn’t it children?  They’re slightly larger than a pistol, with a lower rate of fire and muzzle velocity than their big counterparts, but don’t be fooled: these guns can hold up to 170 rounds of ammo, and they really pack a punch! Plus, they’re fully automatic…
